Replace Hardware, Keep Station ID
« on: July 07, 2024, 05:09:51 PM »
All,

I have had Davis Vantage Vue instruments with the dongle to a computer for many, many, years.  The outside components have each been replaced more than once.  So, I recently bought a WiFi Ambient Weather WS-2000.  The console isn't intuitive, but I got just about everything configured save for Weatherunderground.  I have had a weather station since before they were ubiquitous.  For that reason I got the station ID KTXHONEY1.  If I do a new account it would be up to 22.  I want to turn off the old reporting and have the new hardware be KTXHONEY1.  Can anyone tell me how to do it?  I figured I could log into www.weatherunderground.com and change the MAC address or something, but I don't find anything very intuitive there.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,

Phillip

Dont give up what is yours. WU will not know the difference.

There is no need to register for a new station since you did not move.

I have changed weather station hardware at Weather Underground and kept the same Station ID. Just turn off the old station sending data and turn on the new station sending data. Use the same ID, and you will need to know your WU "key", which can be found in your WU account, Member settings, then "My devices". Put the Station ID and the Key into the new hardware setup. No MAC addresses involved at Weather Underground.

Guys,

Thanks much for the quick and accurate replies.   \:D/  It encouraged me to keep digging.  I discovered the correct complete answer is when you go to WU and copy your credentials, you will get something like this "ID:KTXHONEY1,KEY:edaXXXXX" without the quotes.  When you then go to the great Ambient Weather Network page to configure the different servers, you only need the "edaXXXXX" part of the credentials.  Once correctly entered, my PWS app immediately populated with the data.  Now I just have to go and figure out how to get the data to CWOP.     :???:

Thanks again!

David,

Thanks for that.  I actually found where a guy has written a routine that makes it super easy.  SUPER EASY!   [tup]  The link https://ambientcwop.com/signup takes you to a page made to automate the routine to get your data updated and into CWOP.  Very fast and elegant.  Not associated with anyone or any website, he just did it as a community service.  I used it and it was slick.
