Unable to search for Station ID in Wunderground.com
« on: April 06, 2024, 06:58:46 PM »
I have always liked viewing my weather station in wunderground.com versus the WU app, since all data is displayed compared to the WU app. I realized that when I search my station ID in the search field at the top of wunderground.com, my station ID never appears as a station to choose from. I always thought you could. I can easily get to my station from the map. The reason this matters to me is because I have a plaque with my station ID on it at the location of my weather station and I want my neighbors and people walking by to be able to easily search for my weather station. Not sure if it's just me it doesn't work for? My station ID is KPAPERKA70. I will attach a pic. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

No, it doesn't appear for me either. If I search for KPAPERKA70 I end up with a very short list: KPAPERKA59, which doesn't exist. But entering https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KPAPERKA70 works. . . Very strange.

I know. That's what I see too and that means others won't be able to search for it the way I thought you should and could. I'm not going to put a url out there on my 4 x 4.

What about posting a QR code?  I made one with a free online generator to test.  When I scanned it with my phone it went straight to your stations wunderground page.  I used QR.IO but there are others.

This is a good idea! What would you suggest to use that would withstand the elements outdoors obviously?

I would make one and then laminate it with a 5 mil laminating pouch.  Not sure how it would hold up to UV but it might be worth trying.

I actually decided to get a vinyl decal of the qr code from Decals.com and I will put it on the plaque after I take the stickers off. I have ordered a vinyl decal before from them and it's probably the way to go to withstand the elements.

So the qr code I had generated through the suggestion here with using QR.IO was a fail. I received the vinyl qr code from Decals.com from using the QR.IO generated qr code. I then tried it, but no go due to the free trial ending for QR.IO. So in order for me to get it to work, I would need to pay QR.IO $35 per month, which is insane. So I wasted money there. I then looked into other qr code generators that are at no cost and where the qr code does not stop working. I chose to use Adobe's version, which is an app called Adobe Express. This is actually free and I read the fine print carefully. I just received the new vinyl qr code generated through Adobe printed by Decals.com and it works effortlessly. Here is my set-up below.
