WxBeacon and Wunderground in the News
« on: July 12, 2008, 12:32:56 PM »

The local newspaper printed a front page lead article about Wunderground and includes ... ahem ... yours truly.

Oops! The headline on the Michigan community web site says that my site receives 11 million hits monthly. I could only wish. (The actual newspaper article has a different headline and says that WU, not my site, receives about 11 million hits monthly.)

We should start a members photo thread. It's always interesting to see what each other looks like.

I've often thought the same thing. What...you didn't think I'd look like Captain Jack Sparrow? There's a lady restaurateur in our area who, when I wear a baseball cap, swears that I look like Steven Spielberg. I'm pretty sure she's the only one who thinks so. 8-)

I've also thought it would be fun to have regional meetings. But for the cost of gas #-o, we could buy more equipment. \:D/

I hear you. I plan to wait a week or two before I report on how the article did or didn't affect the number of daily unique visitors to my site. As expected, so far the hits have plummeted each day since the story appeared.

Update:  The paper re-ran the full story in today's Sunday issue 8), but not the lead story this time, of course. In the past 4 days, however, my hits have been dropping dramatically.

Kevin,
How has your weather been? I have had a week of fiar, but hot weather,. My hits have dropped dramatically also! waiting for a TS line to roll through or a tropical strom/hurricane to move up the coast....
Bad Weather = Lots of Hits! :)

Hi, Jim.

For quite a while now our weather has been miserably muggy. Five days ago we had severe storms and intense lightning, and I had 91 unique personal visits that day. (That was also only 4 days after the story appeared in the paper.) Otherwise it hasn't done much except been very muggy and a couple days of 1+ inches of rain.

Regards,

Kevin...

I mentioned that I would wait about two weeks to determine what impact the newspaper story had on the number of hits my site receives. Well, it has been two weeks to the day, and it appears that the number of hits to my site has reached pseudo steady state, so here's my report for those who are interested:

Ha!  I wondered why the number of hits to my site was a little higher than usual this evening. Now I know.

Thanks, Kevin!
