Are ecowitt and ambient the same company?
« on: July 27, 2019, 06:44:07 PM »
I have an ambient WS-2029a clone.

The model number is WH2900C so looks like it maybe made by ecowitt.

Now are all these accually made in the same factory just different makes stamped on them?

My manual is the same that comes with the ambient ws2029a

I presume the only difference is software and maybe firmware?

Yet I am sure ecowitt maybe slightly better than ambient?

But seems these maybe produced in the same factory, same components.

As a matter of fact, since I first thought mine was the ws-2029, was pulling my hair out wondering why it would not connect till I realised it was a clone and used the ws apps on android to connect and ecowitt.net

Fine Offset is the manufacturer
Ambient Weather and Ecowitt are the retailers.

Ambient devices will transmit to all Ecowitt devices (Assuming same frequency)
Ecowitt devices won't transmit to all Ambient devices (Ambient has them blocked)

Does Ambient have any product comparable to the Ecowitt HP3501?

Nope. But you never know...tomorrow is another day. Potentially they could carry it if they wanted.

There is one thing to be aware of with Ambient Weather. All the stations they sell are not all Fine Offset. There are at least 3 different OEMs and the they slap the Ambient Weather branding on the stuff. They don't even make it easy to realize this because the model numbers are similar in that everything starts with WS-.

WS-2000
WS-8478
WS-50

All three of those are made by a different manufacturer. You only want the one made by Fine Offset. But there are more models. Sensors between these are also not compatible...which makes sense, but only once you know and realize why.

One more thing that really gets me with Ambient Weather.... THEY ARE STILL SELLING OLD MODELS!

Yes old Fine Offset stuff.. Previous generation stuff with older sensors for more money. Talk about confusing the new buyer. They must have old stock that they still need to get rid of.

For example I don't understand this one at all. You look at the WS-1201-IP for $261 and the WS-2000 for $213 and you'd think the more expensive one is better or newer. But no the WS-1201-IP is previous generation stuff selling for more money!

Same thing when comparing WS-1400-IP vs WS-1550-IP although the price here is only $1 once you realize the obligatory WH32B is not included....but before that it seems definitely that the WS-1400-IP is better and much more expensive. Totally misleading.
