Topic: GW1000 + Console

Greetings!

I have a Ecowitt GW1000. It uses 915mhz here in the US. I'm looking to get a console for it.
I have found posts on here stating both the HP3501/3500_C  ( https://www.ecowitt.com/shop/goodsDetail/82 ) and the HP2551-C ( https://www.ecowitt.com/shop/goodsDetail/79 ) sold on Ecowitt's site are compatible with the GW1000. However... I can't seem to find what the difference is between the consoles. The HP2551-C seems to have more buttons, and is more expensive, but that's about it.

Does anyone know the differences in the two models?

For reference, my station consists of and what I'm looking to display on the console:
GW1000 (Utilizing Inside Temp sensor, Uploading to Ecowitt.net and WU, and feeding CumulusMX for local logging and other uploads)
WS68 Anemometer + Solar Sensor
WH40 Rain Gauge
WH57 Lightning Detection Sensor
WH32 Outdoor Temp + Humidity Sensor
2 x WH31 for Indoor Temp + Humidity Sensor
WN51 Soil Moisture Sensor
WH55 Water Leak Detection Sensor

I know this can be confusing, but the gw1000 is a console. The other consoles are consoles with display. They do not read the GW1000, they read the sensors, same as does the GW1000.

So things like calibrations that you may have performed on the GW1000, also have to performed on the other consoles.

Ah okay. I wasn't sure how the Consoles interacted with the GW1000 exactly, but thanks for letting me know they operate independent and have their own inside temp sensors as well as pressure sensor that will also need to be calibrated.

Just looking to find out the differences between the two consoles, and which one will pick up the majority of my other sensors that the GW1000 will also be receiving. I'm looking to set this up for easy viewing of my sensors in the bedroom or living room so that I don't need to grab a phone or device to check the sensors quick .

The size and resolution of the displays is one thing.
The 2551 is also more configurable for future sensors, its easier to setup and connect to WiFi. IMO it's a much better console and I've had both.
Both are consoles that read the sensors directly and are configured separately from the GW1000.

In short though the HP2551 is the premium console and can show all and any sensors and the HP3501 is a bit more restricted and somewhat smaller in size

Thank you!! Looks like I'll be aiming for the HP2551 to future proof myself. It also seems to support my lightning sensors that the other 3501 does not support.

Just one thing I noticed about the HP2551 (I have the HP2553BC version) is that even though it displays the new sensor instantaneous data, for some reason those sensors are not logged to SD at all in case you wanted the 1 minute data. Ecowitt server data upload is done of course though.

Don't think that was mentioned in the other comparison thread. Also if you use CumulusMX or other software this may be not important to you. Just a bit of an unexpected observation I had related to "future proofing".

And if you configure another interval, these sensors will be logged?

I'm missing WH51 Soil Moisture Sensor (multiple) and WH41 PM2.5 Sensor (one).

After sunset today, I'll try to change the interval and back to see if they are added to the microSD card data backup file.

Those sensors are fairly new. It is quite possible the data is not logged. I have the sensors, and a PM2.5 , but I'm reading them through my gw1000. I'm not reading them through my WS-2000 console (which has the SD)  because, well I can't , different brands. (Actually my PM2.5 is Ambient, I have never checked the SD to see if I get data from it)
This may be an issue Ecowitt needs to b aware of.
For me, I rarely read the data (if ever) from the SD card on the WS-2000 console, too much of a pain.
I get it for backup purposes. Like I said, need to see if anyone else has the issue, and may be a bug report.

Good spot regarding the logging to SD card.
I'll take it up with Ecowitt.
Like many I tend to use a GW1000 to log my data, however I kind of assumed that the SD card data was there as a backup!

OK, so I checked my SD card and confirmed that all my sensors ( I have quite a collection) are being logged and so I suggest that you might not be running the latest firmware.
In these cases always check the firmware version.
The Wifi Firmware via WSView (smartphone app) and the console firmware is updated via installing a file onto the SD card which initiates the update
The latest console firmware is v1.6.7

OK, so I checked my SD card and confirmed that all my sensors ( I have quite a collection) are being logged and so I suggest that you might not be running the latest firmware.

Firmware update sort of addresses the issue, but not fully. I was on V1.6.0 instead of V1.6.7. The behaviour is still quite strange:
1. "Backup-_" files do not included the additional sensors (Underscore is replaced with the actual alphabetical serial #). These large files are the only ones that contain the longer data logs.
2. "202010A" file does include the PM2.5 sensor but not the other sensors.
3. "202010Sensor-A" contains the soil moisture sensors, PM2.5, and water leak sensor data only (and provisions for other sensors).
4. "2020SM1A" file that only contains the CH1 soil moisture readings which is redundant to "202010Sensor-X" .
5. "2020CH1A" file contains channel 1 temperature and humidity sensor readings, which are not included in "Backup-X" 
6. "2020CH2A" file contains channel 1 temperature and humidity sensor readings, which are not included in "Backup-X"  nor "202010A".nor "202010A".
7. All of the "2020...A" are continuously modified and not tied to the 'manual backup' function which is run on the HP2553BC unit itself through settings menu. It looks like they store data from when I first installed the unit (until they are deleted then fresh ones are made). Not sure if there is a limit to how much data these files will store.
8. It would make more sense that these files are all merged into one, but probably these files have been added in incremental firmware updates (a sort of bloat/maintaining prior files).

Other added notes:
1. WS View displays HP2553BC Wifi EasyWeather Firmware only (V1.5.4), not the main firmware (Pro_V1.6.0 / V1.6.7).
2. To view the main firmware, on the unit itself it is shown in Settings, About Display.
3. To update the main firmware, the Ecowitt website says "2. Drag the unzipped file under the root directory of your microSD card." This is not exactly accurate because you need to copy "user.bin" over and not the whole "HP2551_V1.6.7" folder which it is zipped as. I suspected this was going to be an issue and it was just a minor annoyance of the instructions, mostly because microSD removal and insertion must be done carefully.
