Rain data issue on PWS Weather
« on: June 29, 2020, 08:34:38 AM »
I have experienced an odd data problem on PWS Weather. I have reported the issue to them, and they are investigating. I wanted to see if you had heard of any problems from other WiFiLogger users.

The rainfall details graph is wildly higher than the rainfall summary number. The Summary matches station data and Weather Underground. The data is reported properly on Weather Underground.

See this day:
https://pwsweather.com/station/pws/vowc01?date=2020-06-27&timespan=day
and the next
https://pwsweather.com/station/pws/vowc01?date=2020-06-28&timespan=day

Previous rain events were fine.

I am running firmware 2.16, and have not done any station changes.

Thanks.

I received this email from AerisWeather Support. Does the data look correct? Can you answer the question about rainfall rate?:

Jim,

Looking at the station data, we receive both precip and total precip, which are precip1hr and precip24 hour respectively.

That said, we have some stations that will send precip rate for precip, vs the 1-hour precip. I think this may be what is occurring with your station.  I notice one observation is:

"v1|VOWC01|2020-06-27 13:12:00|-86.198044|39.973709|902|215|4.2|16.0|74.0|4.00|29.869|72.0|93|||WiFiLogger2.16|0.23||",

Here the precip sent to us was 4.00"  but the 24-hour precip looks correct 0.23.

I have confirmed we do not have WiFiLogger set up as sending precip rate, so it may be treating this value incorrectly.  Can you confirm what it is sending for precip?

Lastly, we should normally use the 24-hour precip if it's available. I see the summary is, but the observation/archive which is used for the charts is not.  I have created an internal ticket to have this reviewed further. Note that due to the holiday this week, it may be next week before the team can fully review.

Also - can other WiFiLogger users please check your PWSWeather.com data, and see if your rainfall is correct, or incorrect?

I would really like to know if this is an issue unique to me, or not. If you DO have bad graph data, please report to PWSWeather.com support.

My WiFiLogger2 seems correct to https://www.pwsweather.com/station/pws/KOMOKA2?date=2020-06-19&timespan=day for the last 4 days we've had rain = June 19, 21, 23 and 27
It also matches pretty close to https://www.pwsweather.com/station/pws/KOMOKA?date=2020-06-19&timespan=day  which is Davis Envoy/USB and Cumulus1

Your first 2 links graph seems about 10 times the recorded precipitation

Enjoy,
Paul

Thanks for verifying your data is correct, Paul. I agree that the chart is "about" 10x what it should be.

This is getting more, and more, interesting!

I also upload the data to PWS to then have the Aeris API Token. It doesn't bother me. But how come you use firmware 2.16 when the latest is 2.30?

I have not updated the firmware out of laziness and no real need. Everything has worked perfectly for me before this incident.

If WiFiLogger support suggests the update, I will do it, but I don;t want to do anything right now that might mask the core issue.

I have made mistake.
I have put RainRate instead of 1 hour rain :(
Probably very long time ago I have read it as "per hour", not from 1 hour.

I have just published 2.31. I have repair PWS, but it is still 2.31.

I was not quick enough. Please click on update once more. It will update from 2.31, to 2.31 :(

I tried to update from the US server and now show "Firmware version: WiFiLogger 2.30"

Is this correct? Or do I need to try a different method?

Yes

Firmware 2.28, 2.29, 2.30 has one feature which not allow to use http update.

Please download package with firmware. There is PDF idside how to upload data bin file to the logger
https://wifilogger.net/support.html

Please note that this is for WiFiLogger2 only. There is no 2.31 for WiFiLogger1 yet.
