Ecowitt HP2564 and wifi
« on: December 14, 2024, 09:03:49 PM »
I have just purchased an HP2564 and like others, I have has issues with connecting to wifi. My wifi would connect for a few seconds then drop out then reconnect then drop out again, repeatedly connecting, dropping out and connecting again. When connected there was a yellow exclamation mark beside the wifi symbol, indicating a fault but if the console updated to Wunderground at the same time as the wifi was connected, the information went through.
The console would connect and stay connected to my iPhone hotspot but not to my Telstra 4GX wifi hotspot, a ZTE modem. In the settings for the dongle under wifi advanced options there is a place to select a channel. The channel is normally set to auto but there are 13 channels starting with channel 1 having a frequency of 2412 MHz, increasing by 5 MHz for each successive channel ending with channel 13 having a frequency of 2472 MHz. Setting to channel 13 gives me a stable internet connection. Other channels did not work.

:) I'm not in Australia, and I don't have your Ecowitt model, although I have other Ecowitt gateways and I am familiar with their wifi setup.

I'm reasonably sure that your device needs to talk to a 2.4GHz wifi network and not a 5Ghz network. I think your Telstra 4GX wifi hotspot  ZTE modem offers both, but you need to make sure you are selecting 2.4GHz.

I suggest using the EcoWitt "WSView Plus" app to do the wifi setup.

You may already are aware of those points, but I didn't see any mention in your post. If you decide to use that app, post more details of where you have an issue.

I have 2.4 Ghz selected. I mentioned the 5Mhz steps between each channel. My wifi connection is working perfectly on channel 13 on the modem.

when the console connects properly to your iPhone hotspot, the issue is very likely with your WLAN access point/ WLAN router (what you call modem - these are often integrated pieces: router + modem).
The yellow exclamation mark indicates that the WLAN ("WiFi") connection cannot be established.
You could try your luck with a different WiFi protocol. Maybe your accesspoint is set for ax or bx instead of a or b or g or n - this the console wouldn't understand. The WiFi protocols supported by the console are Wi-Fi: 2.4G 802.11 b/g/n
