OKC Has Below Average Temps For 12 Straight Months
« on: June 26, 2019, 04:22:41 AM »
This shows that Oklahoma City has had below average temperatures for 12 straight months.  Amazing.  Possibly that long a stretch has never happened in Oklahoma City weather history.

I'm looking at my unbiased and untainted records, starting Jan 2018 through now 2019, 14 of the last 18 months have been below seasonal normal some 580 miles north of OK city.

.2 and .3 are not below enough to be called 'below'.  Few ever hit 'normal' right on, so within a degree either way IS normal.

These are mean temperatures so its enough for me and apparently enough for the NWS.  My mean temperature is calculated hourly 24/7. Not exactly sure how NWS does it but I don't think anyone does a mean based on daily high and low exclusively anymore.

The USHCN still uses Tmax and Tmin to calculate the mean

Unfortunate and deceptive then.  An example at midnight it's 47f with strong SW wind just before an arctic cold front pushes through by 1 am the temperature has dropped to 30 behind a strong NW wind and continues into the teens by 6 am where it stays the rest of the day.
Happens quite often upper plains.

It's not as bad as the GHCN data, but yeah.  But for the record I have heard from coop observers that one of the first things they learn to do is reset the Tmintmax thermometer using logic and reason, and use common sense when recording daily highs and lows. This was pretty common back in the day, with the handwritten notes explaining the weather, and what happened.

To be concluded
