Unable to connect to APRS servers for VPLive upload
« on: November 05, 2011, 01:14:55 AM »
Two days ago my feeds to the APRS servers via VPLive started failing. I have made no changes to the software or settings but the data uploads stopped. Looking at the VPLive log file, I see that it is failing to connect to the APRS servers.

Has anyone else recently had a similar problem? This is baffling. I sent an email to Russ at the support staff for CWOP/APRS this evening and am awaiting a response.

You can see the data stop on Nov 2nd:

Did you ever find an answer to this one ?

I had a HD fail, upgraded to win7, and noticed that things are no longer working for me.

Brendan,

Wow, that was over a year ago and yes, everything is working fine again. However, i don't remember what the fix to the problem was at the time. I suspect it may have been that the APRS server addresses had been updated and VPLive didn't pick up the correct addresses but, I really don't remember.

Have you checked your version of VPLive? Is it the latest (1.2.5.27). Also be certain you have VPLive set to automatically download the CWOP/APRS se3rver list from SoftWX. That can be found in the Settings | CWOP/APRS Settings menu item.

Well I got all that working, but suddenly I've just noticed that it hasn't been uploading the data again. :(

I've noticed that now the status bar reads

Could not start APRS helper process

This is also in the logs too.

I'm running it as Administrator user now, but that didn't fix it.

I noticed this week that I was not sending to cwop.

I had to switch to WD for that .

My CWOP uploads using VPLive also stopped working about a week ago.  WeatherLink works and so I've switched back to it for all my weather data processing and uploads.  The newest version of WeatherLink 6.0.3 while still archaic looking seems much more robust for the uploads to CWOP and Weather Underground with almost no failed uploads in the past week.  It is too bad VPLive is no longer supported as it was a really nice utility, but that happens with freeware/shareware.
