WH46 + HP3500?
« on: April 25, 2024, 09:49:30 PM »
I've had a HP3500 for a few years now.  Just got my WH46 sensor in the mail today, and it won't pair.  According to the manual (https://www.manualslib.com/manual/3321600/Ecowitt-Wh46.html?page=8#manual), you're supposed to pair it by going into the Sensor ID section of the Ecowitt app.  Well, that's disabled for my 3500.  Frequency is right and I can hear the fan and see the LED when powering up, so I figure the unit is good.  I'm on the latest firmwares (3500 version 1.7.2 and Easyweather 1.6.7)  I know the HP3500 is not popular, but does anyone else have this combo working?

All my other sensors have paired automatically, sadly, this is my first issue.  I do see the 3500 isn't listed on Ecowitt's site any longer, but the 3500 is listed as compatible (https://osswww.ecowitt.net/uploads/20231214/Compatibility%20table.png)

Neither the WS View Plus app nor the Ecowitt app nor the HP350x WebUI support configuring the sensor IDs for the HP350x consoles.
You have to do this from inside the console.
Go to the "Factory" page ( 7x Menu button) and select "Sensors Info" with the arrow key(s) - once on the "Sensors Info" press the "+" button. You have to press the Menu button again four times to arrive at the CO2 Sensor page. There press "+" when the focus is on "Re-Register". That should do the job (hopefully - a WH45 will do - and hopefully a WH46 also - if not, a firmware upgrade will be needed)

Thanks.  Ecowitt support said the same thing.  So far no dice, I'm wondering if I have a defective sensor unfortunately.  Tried several times reregistering, power cycling both devices, etc.  Took a week and a half to get here from China, unfortunately!

Are you waiting long enough to receive data?  On batteries it’s every 10 mins, powered is 1 minute but still might take a few to show up.    I’m assuming this doesn’t show up on your ecowitt.net page?

If I were you (not knowing the filling of your wallet though  ;)), I would get me a GW1200 for 34 USD from the amazon.com Ecowitt store.
1. it should receive it (after the latest firmware upgrade which will be offered automatically in the WS View Plus app - for pairing see WiKi))
2. if not, the WH46 is defective and Ecowitt will replace it
3. You will have a backup console/gateway and can view live data in your local network with the WS View Plus app
(many consoles can register and process the same sensors like radio station and receivers)
4. if you want to go IoT some time, the GW1200 is (Ecowitt)IoT ready

you can have a look at our WiKi too: http://meshka.eu/Ecowitt/dokuwiki

Your HP3500 is likely an older model given that its WiFi firmware is EasyWeather 1.6.7 (old iFi modem) and not EasyWeatherPro 5.1.5 (new WiFi modem and Web Interface). This model will never get IoT enabled, however should be able to receive all classical (=non-IoT) sensors. Why the WH46 doesn't work .... - probably the device firmware needs to get upgraded, but an upgrade is not yet available ...

I presume the sensors just feed both the HP3500 and GW1200 at the same time?  I'm not opposed to getting one, I played around with Cumulus MX but figured out that you needed a gateway to get the near realtime data.  So if you can feed both of them then that would be an easy justification for a gateway :).

if you read the WiKi, you will find that CumulusMX works well with a GW1200.
There is an extra chapter about application software for Ecowitt stations in the WiKi - and CMX is in my experience the easiest to install and run and at the same time pretty powerful.
Have a look at my landing page (signature) - you will find examples of CumulusMX (CMX) based websites (and others).
Locally you would rather use its dashboards (see WiKi)

I don’t think I was clear in my question, I was more questioning if all of my existing sensors would get picked up by the gateway too (so they reported to both the gateway and console).  I received my Gateway on Saturday so I answered that question “Yes” :)

Unfortunately, it also answered the question of if my WH46 was defective with a resounding yes.  The new Gateway would not pick it up, even sitting right next to it.  So back it goes.

Thanks for the assistance!

there was an issue was the GW1200 and the firmware 1.3.0 and the WH46 - 1.3.1 should solve the issue.
If the WH46 is still not received by the GW1200 (which is a radio receiver like the HP2550 console and can receive the sensor transmissions independently), also not by entering its ID (there should be a label on the sensor housing) into the sensorID page
(via WS View Plus or http://ip-of-gW1200 ) choose "disable" for the CO2 sensor - save - choose "enable" again and enter the sensor ID and save - and wait for the "success" message - may take a minute or more, then it is defective and you should report that a new GW1200 cannot detect it either to support@ecowitt.com
the will very likely send you a replacement

I’ll give another go when I get home.  I did initiate the return with Amazon but haven’t sent the device back yet.  The gateway was updated to 1.3.0 on Saturday, but I just checked and see 1.3.1 with the WH46 note.  Updated and I’ll see what happens tonight.

1.3.1 firmware did fix the GW1200  [tup].  Now we’ll wait for the next firmware for the HP3500 I guess.  Thanks again for all your help!
