Servicing the station
« on: April 26, 2024, 11:55:41 PM »
I have to take down my mast with the ws5000 sensor so that i can add some more equipment on the mast. It is currently sending data to cwop as well. What is the best way to temporarily stop any erroneous data from being recorded on the console and to cwop. Is simply unplugging the console before i take it down or work on the equipment and then plugging it back in when im done the best way. Im assuming it just stops recording and sending anything and then just picks everything back up again after i plug it in. Im also assuming there is a time frame with cwop when it gets flagged and stops accepting the data

yes, you could unplug the console;
result: gap in the weather network if it's off longer than 5 min, , but one can see actual readings on the console display

also, you can disable the console postings to the weather networks or customized target locations.

disable the sensors in the console sensor ID page - if you also going to "tinker" with the rain gauge, I'd use this approach.

CWOP shouldn't be an issue if you remain under 1/2 hour or 1 hour

Pertaining to cwop unfortunately the project is most likely going to take longer than a 1/2 hour. If all goes well perhaps between 1 and 2 hours, longer if issues arise. What happens then?

I don't think anything will happen - just a gap in your graphs and tables - and maybe a warning email that your station stopped posting. I wouldn't worry.

Maybe you can advise
So I attached both on the mast as pictured only problem when i was done the U shaped mast they are on doesn’t sit perfectly straight up and down parallel with the mast or perfectly level. They are a little tilted to one but both pointed true north and appear to give the same results on the consoles for the most part. Hard to tell as they update at different times.
How level does the anemometer have to be. I know the rain sensors have to be really level. Would it affect any wind readings?

1. you can try getting the two pipes of the U-piece leveled by having them bent - may need special tools
2. put some material between the U-end where the WS80 sits and the first (top) bracket holding the WS80 pipe so it will compensate the tilt and become vertical.

I was actually thinking about #2 as i was looking at the pictures closely last night. I really didn’t want to take it down again and was going to leave it seeing both seem on par with each other.
Worsr case i have another U bracket. Not sure how it got twisted as it appears the vp anny is straight. One thing i also noticed is that bottom part of the pole of the ws80 is sitting on top of the u bracket holding the transmitter iinstaed of flush with U mast it sits on causing a tilt. I guess i wasn’t paying attention as i was assembling this on my roof.
When i took the ws80 down to add everything i noticed the original plastic bracket was cracked and the one you see is something i found around the house

Ok so i built out the top end to straighten it as much as i can without having to take the whole thing apart. The vp2 transmitters had to be at least 6” away from the coiled cable of the anny so it was either put it on the other side under the ws80 or on the main mast. Assembly wise it was just easier to put it on the same U bracket and just attach the U bracket to the main mast.
So here is the new completed setup.
Interesting comparing both side by side. Can i say one is as good if not slightly more accurate than the other…
