Isaias now hitting Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic....

Will be interesting if the current track will hold for early next week has it possibly impacts the US...

I assume that you meant "now hitting" instead of "not hitting".

5PM update has it off shore Florida then brushing the outerbanks. Was really hoping for a direct hit this weekend. :-(

They've also bumped the intensity, transitioning to a cat 1 in the Bahamas.

Bahamas really don't need another hurricane.

What are your thoughts? Will it hit FL, SC, or NC first? Models are now shifting inland, and hinting at SC, maybe even FL if the storm weakens a bit.

Models shifting slightly west. I would have to say it looks like a Florida landfall. Euro now has it inland Florida. Looks like it might be a good weekend after all.  :-)

We'd appreciate a healthy drink of water with most of the energy knocked out of it up here in the northeast.

The military forecasting continues. Left right left right. Back to the right and offshore of Florida. Right now looks like a land fall in NC.

If it keeps trending east as it goes north, the US will have dodged a bullet.  If it wobbles west, the east coast could take a pounding.

This is the craziest named storm I can remember!  Where do they come up with these names?  They should come up with an alpha-numeric system for naming storms.

It's one of those names that when you hear it so many times, over and over, it makes you want to go insane! I wish it would just get here and go away.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml

Quote
Since 1953, Atlantic tropical storms had been named from lists originated by the National Hurricane Center. They are now maintained and updated through a strict procedure by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organization.

The WMO uses names from the areas affected, so Spanish language names are fair game. If you know the rules, Spanish name pronounciations are much easier to figure out than English names. Each vowel has exactly one sound (a e i o u - ah ay ee oh ooh). And each vowel is always pronounced, even when three of them are bunched together as in this case.  Finally, if no accent is used, the syllable before the last get the accent (I think - I'm not an expert or fluent).

So,   I sa i as...   ee sah EE ahs.

On Twitter, one of our local meteorologists gave a lesson on the pronunciation.  Someone replied "practice a lot before you go on the air". She replied "I don't have to practice".  Her last name is Martinez....

In CT, we were on the East end of the storm. Really big wind! Only .04" of rain. So it's still pretty dry.

It was really bad here for a couple of hours. A weather station downtown at Sturgeon City, KNCJACKS77 read 71 MPH before it went dark. I think it was closer to 90 here. My station blew over and I had it anchored in the ground, with cinder blocks piled on top, and then guy wires, but one snapped off. A Fine offset anemometer I put up for the storm broke into pieces. The arm that holds the direction and cups up broke into several pieces. I don't know what did that! That thing was made of hard plastic. We lost power from 130 AM until after 7 PM that day. The main feed line from the sub station was out.
