What Weather Station Should I Buy? / Re: ecowitt hp2551
« Last post by Ukpaulthm on Today at 07:11:42 PM »
Hi
Thanks for your reply.
Am all very new to this so all I want at the moment is the hp2551 with the screen and have it on weather cloud and weather underground.
Am just wondering if I could have it working with the Gw1100 then it would give me more of an option to more weather services .
Am not limited to one option for any future sensors

or i could buy the GW1102 then that way i could add to it overtime , and just use my pc,tablet or phone

Virtual Weather Station / Re: VWS and WeatherLink question

Hi,
Quote
I am wondering if Weather Link needs to be running in order for data to flow to WeatherLink.com
Yes, with USB or serial logger with Weatherlink PC running, or WeatherlinkIP logger, can send data to Weatherlink.com.  In Weatherlink PC go to Setup, Weatherlink Network and enter Device ID and Key.

can VWS be running when WeatherLink is running or will it crash?
if you can get Virtual VP working on your PC then you can run more than one program, i.e. VWS and Weatherlink PC.  Otherwise only one program at a time.

I've been using VWS for years and have not researched alternatives.  Are there any good alternates to VWS?
CumulusMX is an excellent program that has ongoing development and works with all Davis stations and loggers Software - Cumulus Wiki

Enjoy,
Paul

I see your plugins/steelSeries/cache/yesterday.txt is empty and your plugins/steelSeries/ssMeteotemplate.php results in errror.
Try uploading this script ( which has extended error logging enabled, and a few errors corrected ), in plugins/steelSeries directory, calling with the browser should display something like this:

I am trying to figure out WeatherLink.com  I am baffled by how data flows to it.  I am wondering if Weather Link needs to be running in order for data to flow to WeatherLink.com  ....so... can VWS be running when WeatherLink is running or will it crash?  I've been using VWS for years and have not researched alternatives.  Are there any good alternates to VWS?

Hi all
Am in the UK and looking at buying the ecowitt hp2551 is there any need for me to buy the GW1100 with it or is there no point ?
And is the hp2551 the best weather station ecowitt sell?
Thanks
Paul

It depends what you want to do

If all you want is to monitor weather and have a situation display then HP2551 is fine.  Where the GW1100 comes in is it acts as a screenless console, so it is cheaper and you do your monitoring using a PC or tablet via the weather services you link to on the internet or via the dashboard displays of any logging software (such as CumulusMX)

The two options have similar capabilities in terms of the number and type of sensors they can link to

As far as the 'best weather station' that again depends on what you want to monitor and how accurately. Ecowitt offer a range of sensors at different accuracies, combinations and capabilities

It might be better to look at where you can put the sensors first - are you limited to one option, and therefore a combined sensor array, or could you utilise a number of separate sensors spread around an area, optimising each placement for which aspect you are measuring?

I know 'it depends' is perhaps not very definitive or helpful, perhaps you could describe what you want to measure, for what purpose and the options you are considering for sensor placement?

you can set WD to send out via TNC comport, or just create a APRS WXNOW.TXT file
