Mounting suggestion?
« on: April 08, 2021, 02:10:41 PM »
My apologies if this does not belong in this section, but I am looking for a cheap way to mount my Davis Vue. I thought I found it by purchasing this pipe tower through Home Depot (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Winegard-Universal-Pipe-Tower-Mount-for-Antenna-DS-2000/204701089) and the recommended mast extension of the same brand, but the extension is too small for the pipe and I have found it nearly impossible to find a mast extension with a swedged end that will fit in this pipe (1.66" outer diameter). I currently have the Vue mounted on the end of the tower, but because the roof is asphalt shingles, I am concerned that it is causing heat radiation and would like to raise it at least 3 feet higher, ideally 5 feet. I would like to keep the same tower mount, but I will need to find a smaller pipe with more easily accessible mast extensions. It seems as if 1.25" is the standard. I have the Ambient one of similar design for my station at home, but don't really want to spend $100 for the station at our cabin. Thank you for you time and suggestions, in advance.

I used the same mounting set-up. I was also able to get a length of pipe from a muffler shop that fit into the top of the pipe. They should be able to sell you the length you need but you will have to clean, prime and paint the pipe as it will probably rust rather quickly. I also painted the mount the same color.

Redneck solution: 1.25 inch PVC pipe cut very short to fit into the Vue, drill it and the metal pipe for a bolt, insert bolt and set of washers on both sides in pipe to center it. Wa'la.

Will it "wiggle" any? If this "adapter pipe" is long enough and fits close enough, it should be good.  if not, try making it longer and then put two bolts through it (going through both pipes), one at the top and one at the bottom of this "adapter pipe" that are 90 degrees to each other.

Viola! A fix from outside the box.
