6152 Wireless VP2 question.
« on: March 20, 2021, 03:12:02 PM »
I have a Davis 6152 Wireless Vantage Pro 2 (2015)
Everything is working fine except the anemometer is making occasional galling noises.
When it makes the noise it slows down. I read a thread where a member suggests the the cups might have "slid down" and to check that. Just wondering if this is possible on my unit.
If it is the bearings I will probably shop around and find a replacement unit and take the old one down and put up the new one and then see if I can rebuild the old one.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
G

Unless it's obvious what's wrong, I'd just get this. I replaced mine a couple of years ago. Super simple to do.

I'll be going back up in the bucket tomorrow so I will be able to see much closer if that will work.
I was just looking with the binoculars and it looks like I might be able to do that.
But I'll look more closely in the morning.

Thanks for the tip!

While you're servicing, if I may suggest, pull off the vane and use some electrical cleaner while spinning the shaft with your fingers. Do NOT use a lubricant. Should you choose to, I use this. Fantastic stuff.

Just so happens I have some of that in the garage!
(The nearest HD is 125 miles so that's a break.)

Thanks again.

Since you bought your VP2 in 2015, it'll definitely work. The newer design came out in 2013 IIRC. You may want to save yourself a second trip up by buying the speed cart first, because I'm pretty sure you'll need it. That would certainly be my route of flight.

I'm also installing a webcam up the tower, so I'll probably be going up and down more than I think anyway.

No sense in moving the big truck unless it has a destination, so it can just sit there and be available.

Very good. It is after all a wear-n-tear item. Careful up there so you can UU after you're done.

Received it and did the swap out and it is working just fine.
Bought another for future replacement (since we have a lot of high winds here)

Thanks for the suggestion/help.
