Title: Reliable/updated online historical weather data?
Post by: coyotefred on April 03, 2020, 06:35:59 PM
Like many folks, I own/use a personal weather station to monitor precip, temp, etc.  I also take/report regular precip readings to CoCoRaHS.

I make/keep a pretty basic month-by-month weather log, where I compare my readings to historical climate data for my location (KBFF is the source of most of the historical data I've seen).  The main data points I'm interested in are monthly/annual average precip, and monthly/annual average temperature.

The problem I have is that the website I use to collect my weather station data (Weather Underground) only reports temp as a "monthly average temp," whereas the climate data sites I've found typically report that as monthly "average high" and "average low" temperatures, so I'm unable to compare apples to apples comparing those two sets of data.

Any ideas where I can find reliable/updated historical climate data where I can find historical monthly averages, not just "average high" and "average low"?

Thanks for your help-

Thank you for this link.  From what I can see, however, the historical data ('statistics') are only from 1961-1990, and I only see average number of days of precip per month, not average amounts of precip per month...?

Hmmm... yr.no seems to have changed a lot.  For US try https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/cdo-web/ ?

After searching around a bit more, I was able to find this tabular data that I think will work for me:

https://www.weather.gov/cys/cliplotmntable

I can select the site I need from the pull-down.  Not sure the range/how far back the data goes to determine the 'normal,' but I think this should be good enough :)
