Environment Canada has been monitoring the Ernesto situation closely and has issued a special weather statement (lots of rain) for southern Ontario.  The NHC has also placed the track of Ernesto right past good old Beamsville, Ontario three days from now. We'll see what happens.

Oh yeah, baby! Could be an entry level Cat 1 by the time it hits my back yard!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're worse than me in springtime. I just want the tornadoes close enough to see, I don't want them to hit my back yard!

Yep, maybe a bit to the East...

Had a max rain rate of almost 8"/hr in the last rain band.

Siting of my anemometer has issues with wind basically anywhere from about 270-090 degrees. Very tall pine trees... Should pick up the southerly wind more accurately.

Only had a 22 mph max, but that is probaby low...

Another band moving through as I type...

The airport has about 7-8" apparently, while I've only got about 3" of rain. Not a surprise necessarily, highly variable around here.

Go Agassi! :D

Been following the storm on your www site and the NOAA radio you are providing.  Does that Market St/College RD/Oleander get flooded ?

Yes, they started to get flooded around 1-2 PM today...

Wish I could get the radio reception a bit better, but it must be the weather causing all that intermittent noise...

Check out this image, haven't seen so many colors on a map before!

I see a tornado warning up for New Hanover.

Just watched the 10pm TWC update, looks like blinding rainfall in North Myrtle Beach.

That warning was based on radar signature, cancelled fairly fast... (I've got the local NWS crawler on the weather channel).

Pretty quiet right now, but the eye hasn't passed yet... no wind shift...

Bedtime - give us an update after all is said and done.  Got my black landscaping drain pipes hooked off my gutters to run this 3-6" rain they are calling for here in southern NJ away from my home.  I never have had water problems here, but just in case it decides to come down super-heavy, I keep do it just in case. I have a low spot near one of my basement windows and luck has it the gutter drains right there  :(

Rain here at Topsail (Surf City) 4.38" since noon today. Barometer dropping dramatically. Now at 29.49" and still headed south.

Lights are flickering, too. That tells me that it's just a matter of time before the power fails. Highest wind gust recorded here 33MPH.

Gonna go drink an adult beverage and hit the sack.

At 11:00 PM Eastern.... It looks as if the center of Ernesto is just now making landfall. The worst winds should be within the next 2 - 3 hours. Time for that beverage.....

Sigh... sadly, due to the poor weather conditions when I left work yesterday, I was unable to stock up on adult beverages..... only had enough bourbon left for 1 drink...

Once the "eye" passed through here, that's all she wrote. Nothing much happened afterwards... (and I was up until about 1AM, mostly because I took today off...  and to watch the incredible Agassi match).

I've got a couple large pine branches in the yard, but that's about it...

We're lucky it hit during relatively low tide, since our drainage is greatly impacted by the tide level. Didn't see evidence of excessive water in my back yard, which has a drainage ditch--I've seen worse during heavy thunderstorms. So it seems the water was able to drain away ok... We'll see when I try to drive around town later this morning...

Let's just hope this isn't a warmup to anything else this season...

Tropical Storm Ernesto is history. At least for the Topsail Island, NC Area. By the looks of things today, we came out of it in pretty good shape.

There were no reports of any major damage in the immediate area. Minor flooding from the nearly 12 inches of rain was still visible along roadways early this morning, but most of the water had drained by lunch time.

Along the roads leading to Topsail Island (Surf City), one could easily see a few downed trees. Yards contained lots of vegetative debris in the form of small branches, pine cones, and leaves. A shingle or two, obviously from a nearby roof, could be seen in the mix. The new Lowe’s store at US 17/SR 210 intersection lost a few of the outside storage buildings used for display.

Along the route that I took, I noticed no major damage to any homes or businesses.

Ernesto came ashore near Southport, NC at about 11:30PM local time, but didn’t make it to the Topsail area until about 1:45AM this morning. You could tell when the center of the storm was traveling by the dip in barometric pressure. The lowest pressure recorded as Ernesto passed by was 29.220 inches.

The strongest wind gusts in the area were reported from Johnnie Mercer’s Pier at Wrightsville Beach, NC at 74MPH. The highest wind speed recorded here was 47MPH about 2:10am.

Electric power failed in most areas at one time or another during the storm. The power was off here at the station for about 30 minutes during the height of the storm early this morning. Other areas were affected to different degrees with one report coming from Sneads Ferry, NC of a power outage that lasted for several hours.

I haven’t been to the beach as of yet, but I did receive a report of moderate erosion along some stretches of beach. All those I spoke with indicated the presence of a good amount of seaweed and other vegetation that washed up on shore. I also heard that the shell and shark teeth hunting was very good today.

I heard of one rescue by the fire department last night. Windows had been blown out of a home occupied by a family vacationing in Surf City. The FD took the poor folks back to the station to spend the night so they could rest in comfort.

Local hardware stores reported sales of leaf rakes, blowers, tarps, and lawn-size trash bags. A few mentioned that small amounts of roof shingles and various gutter parts were also selling. The sales of these items are a good indicator of the kind of damage Ernesto did to local property owners.

Standing by for next next one......

Glad to hear you came out OK. Sure could have used some of that rain down here though.

Ernesto looks done here in So. NJ.  2" of rain and lots of wind, I got a 30mph gust but I suspect that it was higher because my annie is not ideally mounted.  To sum it up - a typical 'noreaster type storm.
