Hi All
I have recently found an old vantage pro 2 console at work and have updated the firm ware and have purchased new anemometer, new station solar cover and a weather link live station.
The console is happily reading the data from the station.
Weather link live is set up and running over wifi. I can see three reading from this on the dash board, but the connected weatehr station is showing nothing on the dash board.
As I said the console is showing all parameters fine - but WLL isn't picking up.
I have tried the following:
Uninstalled reinstalled
Running over another wifi network
Taking the WLL and sitting it right next to the Station
Changing the transmitting channel of the station from channel 1 to 5
Can anyone assist me?
Thanks in advance

Maybe a few already checked questions:
Is it a cabled or a wireless VP2? The cabled version only receives at channel 1
Is it using the same frequency as the WLL.
There are 3 different versions for different areas on our planet .
For europe we use 868.0-868.6MHz frequency band.
A WLL set to europe will probably not detect an USA frequency station

Hi there
It is the wireless station/console.
Frequency - not sure. The console was in a cupboard and had been forgotten about. The WLL was purchased from states and shipped here. I had read that when you set it up you select the location, then it will alter frequency?
Is there anyway to check that?

You should either post a screenshot of the stickers and/or use google.
Console #6312EU (VP2 console Europe) from a 6152EU (ISS without UV-solar)
My WLL is a European one and has #6100EU
You can not change the frequency as that is not allowed by local governments. 433MHz 915MHz or 868 MHz are fixed settings for certain areas.
Succes, Wim

Here are the 3 components.

Move your stated location on the WLL to somewhere in the US.
-
OK I am now based in florida Merrit Island!
See no change should I uninstall this WLL and station then reinstall using florida?
I feel so close but not so close
-
I'd suggest just leaving it a while - maybe up to a day. Did you make the change via Bluetooth or online?
-
online
-
Bluetooth would have been better (=quicker) - the location will need to propagate back to the WLL unit. I think it should do this but may just take time.
-
Will delete and start over
I am a pro at that bit now!
-
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss people get in the hole!
Up and running on the app.
Now is there anyway I can edit that location. As it has my station name then florida underneath.....and I am running a marina in the middle east! The members might get wierded out by that.
Also wont this affect my sunrise sunset etc settings?

Think you'll need to stick with a US location and yes of course it will affect SRSS times, TZ/DST etc. The problem - at least as far as I can see - is that you have a US specification VP2 (which may have an EU mains adapter, but it looks like US wireless spec) when for use in your location you should be using an OV/EU/UK one. So the WLL will only receive the ISS data if it thinks it's in the US.

Similar problems going on here...
I have my anemometer on a separate wireless transmitter. The weatherlink live shows wind speed and direction, but it doesn't show any wind chill, ET or THSW (i have a solar sensor)
The phone app doesn't show any data for wind (all dashed out) and obviously no windchill ET or THSW.
I have tried every possible setting, but it seems weatherlink live doesn't like anemometers being on transmitters other than the main ISS.
I've given up on it.

No that's something quite different I suspect. In brief: go to your ISS configuration on wl.com and Edit that. Go to Advanced Settings and make sure that you have 'Select Anemometer' correctly set.
-
Even the app data is screwed
A continuous temp of -18.3 and pressure of -33.9 hPa
No rain graph data either, despite the fact it is raining.

Is ID 2 your main ISS?
What's your station name?

ID1 is my ISS. ID2 is the anemometer.
ID1 advanced settings have no anemometer options.
What is making this confusing, is that wind data is present and correct on the website. However, no windchill, no ET and no THSW values.
The app shows no wind speeds, no windchill, no ET and no THSW values, and the graphs are all reporting bizarre values.

I've now switched the ID's around and I get wind speeds on the app. But now I don't get temp/hum/rain readings and no wind data is showing up on the weatherlink webpage.
This is an unbelievable faff!
-
Switched them back around again, temp/hum/rain data is back, but wind speeds have stopped on the app.
It's a complete waste of time. How can some info show on the website and not on the app? and vice-versa?
-
Looks like some settings have got corrupted somewhere to interfere with the phone app. Let me prod the system... May take a while...
On the windchill etc: Can you check again on your main ISS config screen (in the browser app) - there should be a black button at the bottom called Advanced Settings.
What has to be remembered is that WLL is different from a Vue/VP2 console. On the console, there is little room for ambiguity about associating wind data with ISS data to calculate eg windchill etc.
But WLL could potentially be receiving data from eg 4 different ISS units and 4 different anemometers. So it has to be explicitly told (configured) as to which wind data to use with which ISS data. It's always the way - more flexibility is great and very useful but does often need extra configuration.

There is an advanced settings, yes. But this is all that it contains..

I need to make a list of what the issues are..
ID1: Main ISS
ID2: Anemometer
Phone app shows no wind data.
Browser does show wind data.
App & browser shows no wind chill, no ET, no THSW.
App graphs show a continuous -18.3 for temp and -33.9 for barometer.
=======
ID1: Anemometer
ID2: Main ISS
Phone app shows wind data, no temp data, no rain data, no solar data, no humidity data
Browser shows no wind data, no temp data, no rain data, no solar data, no humidity data
But WLL could potentially be receiving data from eg 4 different ISS units and 4 different anemometers. So it has to be explicitly told (configured) as to which wind data to use with which ISS data. It's always the way - more flexibility is great and very useful but does often need extra configuration.
But the temp info is all correct when it is working when it's set as ID1, but it doesn't combine the wind speeds. Yet in the browser, wind speeds are showing correctly, so where's the windchill, ET and THSW?
The phone app shows none of those, including wind speeds.
As far as I am concerned, It was simple to set this up on a console. WLL is the worst set up experience I have ever encountered. There's no more options to look in to, as I have tried them all.

If settings have got corrupted somewhere along the line between phone and servers (which is very rare but if...) then this needs to be sorted out first because it may be causing knock-on effects. So we need to wait for feedback from Davis.

I think you might be right about something being corrupted..
I went away for an hour to make some dinner. I've just come back to see that I now have wind data working?! However, there's still something weird going on..
The weatherlink webpage looks all present and correct now?!
The phone app has other ideas..
No THSW: https://postimg.cc/648dXBt2
Temp graph nuts: https://postimg.cc/dh2GvHPB
Baro graph nuts: https://postimg.cc/BX1x7ZmR
No wind graph: https://postimg.cc/xq8GH3Mf
Always says 'N': https://postimg.cc/18hDkxTX
The other thing with the wind speed updates, it says you'll see the wind speed update every 2.5 seconds - like the console. It's every 5 seconds on my app. Rather misleading to print that in the manual, I would say?
-
Try deleting the app cache on your phone or remove it from your phone and re-add it.

I already tried that I'm afraid!
It's the same on my tablet.
This is the one that really confuses me: https://postimg.cc/18hDkxTX
It shows N or NNE, but I haven't recorded anything from that direction, and winds are currently from the SW and WSW.

Problem is your App. You will see anything that is not checked as your primary in the "Extra Sensors" display area only. Combined info can only be taken from the primary sensor array. The graphical wind speed/direction and real-time rain data displays also only take data from the array marked as primary. I've requested Davis to update the app so that we can choose what sensor array is primary source for a given reading

It's all been figured out now.
However, the problems are all in the Android app. I tested it against the iPhone app, and there's a lot of bugs. Wind speeds only update every 5 seconds on the Android app and quite a lot of data doesn't update at all under "Live" conditions, unlike the iPhone app.
It was reported about 10 or 11 days ago, but nothing has been done about it as far as I am aware.

I just installed a new system with a separate anemometer transmitter and followed this:
https://support.davisinstruments.com/article/88ogxjf2mm-how-do-i-setup-the-weather-link-live-to-use-a-separate-wind-transmitter
My android app has live data as well as my WeeWX install. WeeWX I can tell the speed of the updates, but the app I can only say that it tracks the console so I'm guessing if you see Last Updated: LIVE in the app it is, well, live.

Count the seconds between each wind update..
It's every 5 seconds for me and I have tried it on multiple Android devices.
The Android app is absolutely riddled with bugs compared to the iOS version.

Yeah, well, I do see that it is clear and sunny at night. I haven't noticed others, but then, I've just had it installed for a few days.
Since I have both I'll install on iOS and see the difference in the timing. Of course, I'll need some wind to do that and it's currently calm.

@johnd I have now got an EU ISS.
Am I right in thinking that the WLL could pick this up but my console won't? Is there anyway to change the console so it would pick up?
Any ideas great appreciated.

You need to connect a terminal emulator to the console (19200 bps) and run the following commands...
TST 1
BAND 1
DOMAIN 2
TST 0
Then reset the console by removing the power (and batteries) for a while.
-
Wow thanks for this. Terminal emulator sounds amazing but I have no idea what this is!
Off down a google wormhole now!!!
Speak soon or send me help!
Is it easy to do?
Thanks
-
Download the PuTTY program (it doesn't need installing), set the connection type as serial, select your COM port, and set the speed to 19200, then open the connection.
Press <Enter> a couple of times in the window, and you should get an "OK" response. Once you have that, then follow the instructions above.

I have got putty but when I connect it only comes up with Black screen and green cursor?
Any ideas?

Not really :( Is it a USB logger? If so, is it set to work in serial mode (rather than USB mode) in the WeatherLink application?
-
Thanks for this. I am close....but also close to giving up! Its a dark art!
I have downloaded a Silicon labs CP210x USB to UART bridge com3 driver. Prior to this download in device manager of PC it wasn't recognized at all.
It is all set there with BR at 19200 and other peramters matching.
In weather link I select serial but it can't find it! test it can't find it, loop back cant do it.
Should I have the data logger plugged into the expansion port of console?
It feels like I have the bits.....but have messed up settings somewhere.
If anyone can assist would be much appreciated.
Thanks

How is your Android app working now?
My Android app Wind updates are as fast as ~2.5 seconds.
My Android WeatherLink app version is 2.1.110.
My phone is an Android Pixel 3XL.
My router is a NetGear Orbi RBR20 Mesh with current firmware.
My WLL 6100 has firmware version Jul 30, 2020.
