Weather software problems

(1/4) > >>

kathy:
I have a Lacrosse WS2308, with Heavy Weather
To date, I have not got it to load info to my PC without essentially crashing it mid way(blue screen w/error message).  I have had some exchanges with lacrosse, but they say it's not a problem with the ws (course not :x )
I have downloaded the most recent drivers of heavy weather and the USB adapter that I had to wait a month just to get.  only suggestion was that a virus program was interfering.  I have disabled my Internet security and it still dumps on me.
I confess I know very little about computers, so please make any suggestions in plain English.
I had a friend see if they could figure out if it was my PC or the ws/wh.  They did not see that it was a direct problem with PC.
I have more than lost my patients with this whole thing.    :x  :x   thanks so much in advance for any help.

Kathy,

You frustration is understandable. It has been my experience that very few of the USB serial adapters on the market are stable. Do you know which brand/model that they sent you?

It has been the experience of several Heavyweather users that the only adapters that appear to work correctly are based on the Prolific PL-2303 chipset (chipset are the integrated cicruits used in the adapter).

It is also possible that the operation system drivers that are used with the Prolific adapters are well written. It is impossible to determine really.

Here is the adapter I have been recommended to users:

IOGEAR GUC232A USB1.1 to Serial/ PDA Converter Cable

Product Description at IOGear.com

http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product&Item=GUC232A&name=USB%20to%20Serial/PDA%20Converter%20Cable

If you do buy it, make sure you download the latest drivers here:

wuhu_software,

Thank you for your response.  It gives me hope at least! :)

The adapter sent by Lacrosse is  SW-1301 from Sewell Direct.
I don't know if that tells you anything.  I will look into your suggestions and get back to you, with results.

thanks again

I poked around on their site. They stated that the adapter is based on the Prolific chip although they do not specify the PL-2303.

Here is the page for the product description:

http://sewelldirect.com/usbtoserial.asp

Did you download the XP/2000 drivers on the page? You have to be careful because there are different links for the 98/Me although it is not obvious.

Here is a direct link to the XP/2000 driver setup:

http://sewelldirect.com/download/Drivers/SW-1301setup.zip

Try running the setup.exe contained within the zip file.

See if that helps.

BTW- How many minutes/hours can you run before you get the blue screen?

Thanks.

wuhu_software:
I have confirmed with Sewell tech. support that the SW-1301 does use the prolific chip set so that is a plus.

Whether or not the IOGear driver would work with the WS-1301, I am not sure, it might be worth a shot.

See the IO Driver download page for their driver.
