Weather.com / Weather Channel
« on: December 05, 2021, 09:00:44 AM »
I've noticed over the last few weeks that the Weather Channel seems to have changed their TV shows.   It seems now that they run their specials from around 1600 MST (right after WeatherUnderground finishes) thru to around 0500 MST, with little, if any, weather forecasts and presenters.  What's going on? Anyone know?  cost reduction? staff quit? IBM cutting costs?

I rarely watch the Weather Channel these days. I much prefer WeatherNation, even tho they tend to run pre-recorded overnight, at least it's still weather!

I have watched very little TWC over the  years to be honest. They have changed from the early days from weather forecasting to more weather entertainment. They couldn't survive from just weather geeks like us so they had to expand to get more viewers. But doing that they also pushed their core viewers, us, out the door. I suggest that what you're seeing is a combination of that and not a lot of weather news. There is a system moving through the Great Lakes with some rain and snow but that's about it. And also cutting costs is always on the table.

Back when TWC first debuted in the early eighties, I watched them religiously. I mean, like a sickness. I was a big Jill Brown fan. Then Al Gore invented the internet and TWC took a back seat. The only time I ever watch them now is if a severe outbreak is progged or a land falling tropical system.

Looks interesting!  I wonder how much of their broadcast time will be focused on global warming and climate change topics?????

When they first came out a month or so ago they said they will push exactly that agenda. Lost my business right then and there.

Back in the day they could talk about anything and I would have watched. No matter their agenda.  Nowadays there is so much weather data available via a smart phone that those places get none of my business.
Also, Jill Brown. Yes! There was another one with long brown hair but her name escapes me. Yowza!. Finally, they had some pretty good music for the local forecast too. I distinctly remember Tinsly Elliss doing She wants to sell my Monkey.

And when TWN started broadcasting in Canada, we had Martine Gaillard.
