WS-View/GW-1000 1.4.6 released (Android)
« on: April 12, 2019, 09:22:05 AM »
For those folks with non Ambient equipment there is a new android version of the Weather Station app released today.
(IOS version will be along in a few days)

The changes/updates are as follows as supplied by Ecowitt:
1. The GW1000 will be able to pick up to 8 WH51 Soil Moisture Sensors now(no fixed channels needed for the WH51).

The WS View app will recognize each sensor as a unique channel one by one(according to the sensor power-on order).
All you need to do is to download the latest WS View APP in your Play Store or App Store and update the firmware to V1.4.6 per the instruction on the new app.
And please don't forget to attach a label of the channel on each sensor for distinction.

2. The GW1000 will be able to pick up to 4 WH41 PM2.5 Sensors now (same operation as the WH51)

3. Sensor ID Manage function has been added on the app (on Live Data Page - click More - select Sensor ID).
On this page, you can see the signal bar of each sensor and register if lost. Also you can enable or disable the sensor with the ID Setting. If you already know the sensor ID, you can input the ID on the ID Setting to fix the specific channel.

There also has been some tweaks to the colour of the text in the PM2.5 sensor readout to make it more legible when its red or mauve.

To match this update there is also a new firmware for the GW-1000 (1.4.6)  which will be triggered when you update the app to the latest version

FYI - Be sure your WS View app gets updated to latest version. In my case I opened the WS View app and it prompted me to do a firmware update on the GW1000. After the firmware update nothing looked different. Then I realized that my WS View app had not yet gone through the automatic update process so I forced a manual update with the Google Play Store.

So I did it backwards. Same final result.

Can confirm IOS app has been updated as well.  I just got my GW1000 and sensors in today, and everything is installed and up and running.

As soon as I opened the app and connected it prompted me to update the firmware on the GW1000.  Had to do it several times, as it would say update succeeded, but it did not take, even after reboots.  I wonder if the IOS app was the issue.

I was just searching trying to figure out why updates & a new temp sensor was not working.    Turns out that updating the app did the trick.  Thanks for pointing this out.

@Galfert can you register the WS-2000 with this app it only shows the cheaper model version in the available registry options? Thank you much!

You don't use any app to configure the WS-2000 onto a WiFi network. The WS-2000 gets configured onto the network by using its built in setup screen with the button on the bottom which correspond to arrows for onscreen key and option selection. However after the WS-2000 is on the network you can use the WS View app to turn on/off or configure online services like WU and WeatherCloud. You will not be able to configure onto Ecowitt.net because it is not supported on the WS-2000 obviously. So for the WS-2000 the WS View app pretty much works just like the awnet app except that it is missing the configuration for AmbientWeather.net. There is no advantage of using the WV View app with a WS-2000 over using the awnet app.

It will be an improvement on looking at archived data. Right now you can only look at a day or a week or a month or the past year. This improvement will probably be like how the old WU had a Custom Mode to generate reports and graphs for exactly the time period you want not just the next consecutive block of time.

Ambient pushes out beta software to everyone. If you read the release notes often the latest firmware is tagged "Beta." And I'm very against running beta software on my production station. Which is why I always refrain from adopting firmware when it first comes out. I don't like being the guinea pig. I do have an extra ObserverIP just for testing purposes as I'm very dependant on it for my Meteobridge to work as it reports to many services including my SQL database. But on my WS-2000 for example I'm still running 1.4.0 because 1.4.1 just came out and kbellis already found a few bugs (SD card recording issues and rain event issue).

But that said I do assist Ambient and FineOffset and Ecowitt as a volunteer. Merely by finding and reporting a lot of bugs. Making manual revisions. Suggesting features. Testing new hardware.

Good on ya,I don’t have a bridge..they seem pretty cool not in my budget ATM,1.4.1 didn’t say Beta that’s partly why I flashed it to my SD so I have the latest firmware.Hopefully they adopt a lot of your feature request,I have seen your list they seem practical and robust time will tell.

I have the GW1000 now, just wonder if the WS2000 will pickup the Wh41 PM2.5 Ecowitt version of the PM2.5? Has anyone tried?  They say the WS2000 will pickup the Ambient version just curious how different they are.

No the Ecowitt PM2.5 will not show up on the WS-2000. The Ambient version is not out yet even though it is listed on their website. It says out of stock but it has never been in stock.

When the Ambient version comes out (whenever that is) do you think the GW1000 will pick it up? I'm thinking it will, but who knows.

Most likely yes. Currently other Ambient sensors are picked up by the GW1000.

That would be the way to go, best of both worlds, WS2000 and GW1000😉👍
