Hi!

There's a new firmware version V2.1.8 available for the GW1100 & GW2000.
Use the current WSView Plus app or the web interface of the GW1100/GW2000 ("Device Setting") to update.

Changelog for V2.1.8:

Added password encryption for HTTP transmission
Support fast uploading to the server after thunder
Fix the bug that the RF module may not receive data
Fix the bug of not reconnecting the router

The new firmware is reported via WSView Plus, but the process currently stops with a timeout during the update.
I cannot install the update at the moment.

Hi!

In the meantime, I was able to update the GW2000 via WSView Plus. The GW1100 still reports a timeout when downloading the update.

I can report the same, GW2000 updates, GW1100 times out.

the changelog is just a summary of the changelogs 2.1.6 and 2.1.7

=> as per the changelog, there is no difference between 2.1.7 and 2.1.8
maybe they uploaded the wrong changelog ...?

osswww.ecowitt.net seems to be having issues with the data transfer which is a reason for the timeout.
Depending on how many times I try to upgrade, sometimes it jumps to 81% (where it failed), other times it just doesn't progress at all, but mostly it just fails at the 81% mark.

There's one new point:
4. Fix the bug of not reconnecting the router

As far as I remember, there was a corresponding bug report here in the forum. So this could be the fix for it.
Of course, I don't understand why points 1-3 are now included again.

"V2.1.8 added a wifi reconnection mechanism: if there is no wifi connection, it will try to reconnect. Prior to this version, wifi drop out will not be retried."

Finally they've repaired the firmware file for the GW1100 and I was able to install v2.1.8 also on my GW1100.

as per ecowitt, by mistake, the download for the GW1100 took the GW2000 firmware which wouldn't then work in the end.
This shows again, as @kheller2 already reported earlier, that the two firmwares are not identical on the code level.
Ecowitt will change their internal procedure how to provide the GW1100/GW2000 upgrades in order to avoid such issues in the future.

I just upgraded to 2.1.8 from 2.1.7 for the GW2000 via webpage interface without issue. I noticed it took 0.2mm away from daily piezo rainfall from 6.4mm to 6.2mm after the update

LOL. Imagine forgetting to add this functionality from day one. LOL. A Wifi device that has no idea how to reconnect.

Previously I'd noticed that Ecowitt devices required WiFi routers have setting such that they broadcast their SSID to work consistently. If the WiFi router was set to hidden/not broadcast SSID then the Ecowitt device would not be able to reconnect if there was a reset due to power failure or WiFi router reset.
