CR123A battery external
« on: May 19, 2025, 09:28:50 AM »
Hi,
I have a termometer placed on a (private) dock so I can keep track of the water temperature telling me when I have to do something about the ice when/if the fiord freezes over.  The termometer communicates with my WeatherStation II which in turn puts the weatherdata on a web-site, a solution that have last several years.

However, the CR123A battery lasts only close to 5 months making the termometer lose connection.  As the dock with the termometer is unaccessible until June, I am looking for a solution that keeps it alive for a longer period.  Perhaps a 'box' with 2 batteries coupled in parallell.

Is there something like that out there?

Make the springs and what not for contacts out of just about anything.

I am sure there must be a dummy battery to print also to slip into the unit.

seems likely to fit the bill, albeit not cheap for what it is and with only 3 feet of wire. So be sure to thoroughly waterproof any connections if exposed to the weather.

It looks like this could be wired for series or parallel and then put in a box; https://www.amazon.com/DGZZI-2-Slot-CR123A-Battery-Storage/dp/B08R36DLXB

The battery eliminator thing looks interesting, I will have to make a watertight box with two CR123 batteries inside.  I can do that!

Thank you all for helping!

Instead of duplicating the CR123 use either 2*C or 2*D cells which have a much higher combined storage capacity.
