Davis Vantage Pro2 Console Data Collection Options
« on: April 21, 2025, 02:18:59 PM »
Hello to everyone.

I've been running a Davis Vantage Pro2 6313 since 2013, before that I ran the early Vantage Pro since 2011. My weather station feeds Weather Display through the Davis serial/USB data logger on the bottom of the 6213 LCD console running on a dedicated mini PC . All works pretty well. But, as we all know, time eventually takes a toll on outdoor weather instruments. So, it's time for a replacement. My Vantage Pro2 has worked well, only a few parts have been replaced over the last dozen year. I want to replace it with a new Vantage Pro2 6263 setup. I was hoping this would be a simple swap out but clearly it's not.

I've read through a number of WXforum threads about the proprietary limitations with the new 6313 console and their WeatherLink website. Like others, I am not happy about not being able to directly collect my own weather data and do with it as I wish. Suggested solutions on this forum point to adding a separate data collector to feed my weather computer and my WeatherOLA website. Discussed options seem to be add a different Davis or Meteobridge or other data loggers.

My question is this: Can I run the old and new Davis consoles in parallel? Should I just keep my old 6213 console and data logger combo and continue to use it to collect and feed Weather Display on my PC and use the new 6213 console to upload to WeatherLink and get the benefits of the Davis mobile app?

Maybe it isn't a good idea to depend on a 13 year old console/logger. Since major change overs don't happen often I'd like to do this right and I'm certainly open to other suggestions.

Thank you for your help.

Tim

This is the simplest way forward, I have a *very* old VP2 console that is still going strong. Just continue to use yours for the data collection and tuck it away somewhere. Then enjoy the new colour display for everyday reading at a glance.

Davis 6313 is the so called new display hence you have not been running that since 2013? You would have also been running a VP2 since 2011 not just a Vantage Pro.

By a 6213 then you maybe mean a 6312? which is the VP2 Wireless Console?

But anyway a Vantage Pro2 6263 will be fine, new ISS keep your 6312 as it is currently running and use the new 6313 screen along with it's limited upload to WeatherLink.com

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like the way to go is keep my old console to feed my Weather Display PC.

My original Davis Vantage Pro went online in 2011. It was replaced by a Vantage Pro2 in 2013. Both wireless. For those tracking component lifespan, in the last 12 years I replaced the transmit module and the rain collector in the VP2.

Sorry. Too many Davis numbers with little differences. Too easy to mess up.

Ditto Mccrossley.

I bought a new system last spring. We do not have 2.4 internet at school for the new console, so... I had to buy a older style console and data logger.  Both are collecting data but only the old style console is connected to a computer.

You can set your new station to get picked up by the old console.

I'm still using my original Davis VP2 console that I purchased in 2005. I purchased a new wireless VP2 ISS without the new console when I moved to North Carolina in 2024 and the 2005 console and data logger is fully compatible with the ISS.
