WifiLogger2 and PWSWeather
« on: September 18, 2024, 06:46:08 PM »
Hi, everyone,

I just bought and installed a WifiLogger2 on my vantage pro 2 console. Everything seems to work well as I have weewx connected and WL.com working but I cannot seem to be able to make PWSWeather work. I took a look at the debug page and saw something like invalid station id/password which makes me believe that it might not be sending them properly. I have tried changing my password for a less complex one with only letters and number + caps and lower case but even when Enable, it's not uploading observations to PWSWeather. I have also double check my Station ID on PWSWeather. Do I need to use my password or the API key ? I did try to restart the logger by pressing the restart button.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

When I log in the instructions for upload say this about the API Key:

"Use this unique key when posting data to the PWSWeather API from your weather station software. You can generate a new key, but you must also update the key used when posting data to the API."

On PWSWeather editing the station and looking under the API it gives that messages yes but in weewx for example it uses my station ID and password for my account and not the API Key. The GUI of the WifiLogger2 says Station ID / Password. I will try the API key tomorrow to see if this fixes it. Thanks.

I was looking at MB that has API Key/ PWD

My configuration file indicates it's actually a PWD used.

Yep it does not work either with API key. There is almost no trace of line in the debug window about any attempt to upload data to PWS. There might be an issue with the latest firmware 2.43 otherwise WL.com seems to be sending data properly and my station seems to connect fine on port 22222.

I tend to agree on the PWS issue.  I now use my WiFilogger mainly for connecting with CumulusMX but have WiFiLogger uploading to WL.com, AWEKAS, and one other service which all work fine.  I also had WiFiLogger upload to PWS Weather in the past, but disabled that a while back and use CumulusMX instead for uploading to PWS Weather. I tried last night with enable PWS Weather in WiFiLogger but nothing was shown in the debug log.  Again tried it this morning and the same, all the enabled uploads are ok except PWS Weather.

Edit: uploads are now working.

Enjoy,
Paul

I see that the the dev @WifiLogger seems to be present on this forum (not since the 12th of sept). I don't know if he will see this so I'll try to reach him through his support mail and keep you posted.

@PaulMy : thanks for testing it on your side. This seems to confirm an issue.

I'll try again but I have used my login password as well and nothing is getting pushed on PWSWeather. Even if I set the interval at 5 minutes and I have even restarted the Logger. That's really odd.

After Herbaldew's post I retried again this morning and now I can see PWS 5 uploads.
Code: [Select]
Connection time: 221221
WL.COM PACKET NR.: 2 OK!!!
[CustomLoggerHTTP]
wifilogger.net
1 185.135.88.161
Client response time: 450
{"error":0,"errorcode":null,"status":"rtd_ok","content":null,"results":1}
PWS 5
1 18.245.96.21
Client response time: 149

Data Logged and posted in METAR mirror.

AWEKAS 55
1  195.189.4.150
Client response time: 300

302

Found

AWEKAS status: 1
WeatherElement 1
1 50.82.148.144
Client response time: 300
*OK
So I stand corrected and WiFiLogger Data Export is working for PWS Weather using my Station ID and original password I used when setting up PWS Weather about 15 years ago.

Enjoy,
Paul

After talking with the dev it seems that you cannot have Weewx connected to the logger using port 22222 and push data at the same time to PWS. In this case it's not an issue as Weewx can push data to PWS as well. So this issue is solved. Thanks to everyone who helped.

More clarification : Weewx keep polling the logger and this does not allow the poller to process the other exports. I have to find a way to not read the data every 2.5 seconds with weewx and maybe just get the archive loop so it ca breath and do the other exports.

More More : This also causes WL.com not to work. So I have to find a way to tell weewx not to poll every 2.5 seconds.
