GW1000 - Only Pressure showing on Wunderground
« on: August 01, 2019, 07:35:36 PM »
I'm dipping my toe in the water with the weather station stuff.  Had trouble configuring the gateway, used the Windows config app and it worked like a champ.

I have one additional sensor.  I am seeing the internal temp/pressure/humidity coming from the gateway and the additional sensor temp/humidity on ecowitt.net.  So all good there.

I am ONLY seeing pressure on Wunderground.  I have 'Device Hardware' set to 'Other' as they don't have this device listed.

Any suggestions on how I might troubleshoot this?

Thanks,
Jeff

Right in front of my face.  I was looking for Ecowitt but I see that they have it under

I was hoping that might fix it, but still, nothing but Pressure being picked up.

In WU set the device type to WS-2902 or WS-2000 for the GW1000.

The reason you are only seeing pressure on WU is because that is the only sensor that you have that is compatible with WU. Yes the GW1000 has an indoor temperature sensor and indoor humidity but that is INDOOR data. The extra sensors that you have are just that extra and not outside temperature and humidity. You need an outdoor sensor for outdoor temperature and humidity. These are bundled into one unit along with wind and rain. So you need what is referred to as an Osprey sensor or a WS-2902-ARRAY. You can get from ecowitt for example an HP2551 and then you'll have all the components and sensors to send data to WU. Another solution is to get an Ambient WS-2000 depending on where you are. Another option is the HP3501. The GW1000 alone isn't going to do much with WU is what I'm saying. The GW1000 was designed to be part of a bigger system....although optional...it seems like its what you are looking for.

Here in this link you can see the upload parameters that WU accepts in their upload protocol:
https://feedback.weather.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2924682-pws-upload-protocol?b_id=17298

The first thing you'll notice is that indoor temperature and humidity are accepted ....but they aren't doing anything with it yet for whatever reason....and who knows if they ever will.

Wow. Thanks for all of the detail. It’s truly appreciated.
Disappointing to hear as I also ordered their outdoor temp/humidity and their rain gauge that are supposed to arrive tomorrow
I figured that I would skip on the wind as I don’t really have anywhere to appropriately mount it. That was my logic in not going with the all-in-one solution.

Those other sensors you ordered that don't have yet will work on WU. When the GW1000 sees the outdoor sensor and rain gauge it will treat them like as if it were one built into the complete unit. So you'll only be missing wind. You basically will end up with a partial HP3501. At any time if you want a display you can order the HP3501 display separately or the HP2551 display....not sold directly on the website but you can email them. You can also add the HP3501 wind (anemometer) called the WS68: https://www.amazon.com/ECOWITT-Wireless-Powered-Anemometer-Sensor/dp/B07JLRQJ12

Should it pick up WH31 data?   I’m seeing the same problem but have an outdoor WH31.

Yes the GW1000 will pick up a WH31 or WH31B...up to 8 of them.  What problem are you having?

Yes it picks it up fine.  The problem is what gets pushed to WU.  I’m only seeing the inside pressure on the WU dashboard.

The WH31 is considered an extra temperature sensor, it only shows up on Ecowitt.net. It is not the main temperature sensor for outdoor use. The Weather Underground upload protocol only allows for outdoor temperature. To upload outdoor temperature to Weather Underground with a GW1000 you need to have one of the following outdoor sensors.

  • WH65 - all-in-one outdoor sensor array with wind, rain, temperature, humidity
  • WH32 - outdoor temperature and humidity (highly recommend keeping in shade or add a RS-00001 shield or make your own Stevenson screen)

The GW1000 only has 3 sensor built in. It has Temperature (for indoor), humidity (for indoor), and a barometric pressure sensor. Of those 3 sensors only the barometric pressure sensor is sent to Weather Underground. You have to add one of the other outdoor sensors that I mentioned to send other stuff to Weather Underground.

If you go with the WH32 sensor you may then want to also add the separate rain and wind sensors so that you have complete data to send to Weather Underground. The wind sensor is the WS68 and the rain sensor is the WH40.

Thank you for the explanation.

Ah and this was the reason I went with the 31 over the 32.

“Note: One GW1000 can only accept one WH32 sensor.”

I wanted to add sensors in our well house and chicken coop.  But now that I read that again it sounds like I could still have multiple 31s along with a single 32.

Correct. Only one WH32, and up to 8 WH31. But only the WH32 reports to Weather Underground. But the WH32 and all 8 WH31 do report to Ecowitt.net. You could also have a WH65 and then override its built in outdoor temperature if you have a WH32.
