New Weather Station PC COM Port Problem
« on: November 25, 2019, 08:52:41 PM »
HELP!
I have my new Windows 10 PC running and have installed the following programs:
Virtual Serial Port Emulator (64bit) latest version Settings: Physical Port COM3, Virtual COM6 and COM7
Virtual VP v. 1.2.5  Settings: Weatherlink COM16, Weather-Display COM17
Weatherlink v. 6.0.5 Setting: COM6

After hours working on this I am at a loss as to why VSPE or Virtual VP won't work. These programs are working on my Windows 7 PC.
I am switching back to my Windows 7 PC for the moment I need to take a break from talking to myself!

If I bypass both programs and set Weatherlink to COM3 it functions normally.

I need to use these programs as I also run Weather-Display via COM7 which I haven't yet installed.

Does anyone have any idea why these two programs won't work?

Folks:
I just noticed Ken had a similar problem in 2017. I am going to try his solution tomorrow, had enough of working on the new PC for one day.  :-(

Hello:
Well I got Virtual Serial Port Emulator and VirtualVP working.
I had to run VSPE in Windows 8 compatability mode. VirtualVP I had to configure to allow Windows Firewall to allow access for the program.

Now I am trying to run my NWS Alerts CRON job in Windows 10 and I keep getting error message:
Operator or Administrator has refused request. (see attached) I am logged in as Administrator and have set permissions that anyone can be logged in to execute the task via Windows Taskscheduler.

Anyone have any idea what I need to change?

Thanks

Success!
I had a network problem, my new PC had the wrong Windows Workgroup name which was created by Windows during the install. Don't know why it didn't ask for the Workgroup name it would saved alot of heartburn.
I also had to add command cscript in the task to get Windows to execute the vbs script. (see attached file)

So my weather software and website are now running on the new PC.  [tup]
The new PC is much faster than the old plus now I am using an SSD vs Spinning Hard Drive.

Regards,
