NWS WFO EHWO-Graphics Products script
« on: September 24, 2019, 10:10:32 AM »
Jerry, for the first time today I noticed images being created for ILX and IND for this product. There are probably more but I just have been checking my surrounding areas for updates.
No pages on their website yet but the images are being created. Hopefully this script will need an update soon.

By the way, like the script and many of your others. Thanks for the work and sharing.

Thanks for the kind words and the heads-up.  I'll try to add these WFO's when I get a chance.  Unfortunately looking at the script I see that each WFO requires an almost unique centering code.  This may take some time.

I just tried updating the script, but as you point out, these images aren't yet available.

No joy, yet. :-(

Let me know here if you see that the EHWO-Graphics are available at these two WFO's.

Those offices do seem to be producing images.  https://www.weather.gov/images/ind/EHWO/Day2/LightningDay2.png and https://www.weather.gov/images/ilx/EHWO/Day2/LightningDay2.png
They unfortunately haven't yet placed these experimental images on a comprehensive page.  I've uploaded a tentative update to my EHWO-Graphics Products script on my site, but if you go to Indianapolis, IN or Lincoln, IL you'll not see the desired page.  It looks like they're working on it though.

That's what I mentioned in the OP. Images but no page yet. Davenport and St. Louis also have images so it may be all or most of the Central Region getting ready. I'll be visiting the ILX site next week so if I find out anything about it, I'll pass it on.

Just left Lincoln Illinois NWS office and as of this morning, all of Central Region should have the EHWO available.

Where are you looking for them?  From their main page => Current Hazards => Experimental Graphical Hazardous Weather Outlook

I think all CRH EHWO's can be found by using that same url structure now.

Until Jerry modifies his code to include both urls, I've set up just the CRH on my website (altered to fixed my scheme).
Working fine so far. Still have a few heights to adjust on different office sites due to legend change on different products.

I worked on this yesterday, and have replaced the old script with a new one that is specific to CRH WFO EHWO-Graphics Products.

There are a couple of problems that persist.  When displayed with a narrow width of 680px, the graphics quite properly align vertically.  That is until you select 'Des Moines' and then select another map whereupon the graphics align horizontally with a tiny map.  Everything works, but this is a little bothersome.

You can see a narrow width of 800px when you 'View' the new script on my scripts page.  Here is the 680px narrow width on my testing server.

I've dropped distribution and support for the old script which required the construction of arrays of arrays by trial and error.  Not fun.

There was a problem with the '-SA', StandAlone version in the zip available initially.  This has been fixed in the zip currently available.

Yes, mostly likely each office will need a different size to the iframe. GSP uses this but theirs looks totally different. And then when an office puts a banner for some weather threat at the top of the page, the iframe contents will get shifted down. I have found that some things are not worth trying to stuff in an iframe.

Ok, so we know some don't like iframes and if you are one of them, then this adaptation is probably not for you.
I've joined the 2 (actually 3. Florida have a couple that's different than all the others) different formats and links to EHWO outputs.
Instead of a drop down menu, I went with a clickable CWA Map. CWA's without a valid EHWO will display a graphic advising that the site is not yet functional (hopefully more will join soon).
I've added a call to the script on my local HWO page. You can see it in action there... http://vermilionweather.com/hazoutlook.php
I've included a zip with this post that contains the necessary folder and files.
Yes, everything is iframe. I did not try to cut off tops and  bottom descriptions of the pages. CRH EHWO's are very clean but the other regions that offer an EHWO page do have details and help descriptions included. Did not want to mess with making dozens of different iframe sizes.

Just load the EHWOcwa folder, which contains the main folder with all the necessary page files and map up to your website. I know a well scripted array (that combined all the different url versions) would be neater but that's not my forte.  Set your HOME cwa by calling it on the page where you want to display it. I use
Code: [Select]
<iframe src="EHWOcwa/EHWOilx.php"  width="100%" height="1900"></iframe> [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I used iframes before most people did, and I still use them, they are great for certain applications. My only point is that not everything is suitable for an iframe. Not only that, some web designers have gotten wise to that and construct their pages in a way that doesn't allow the content to be displayed in an iframe, and I've had to get rid of a lot of nice pages because of that. I only say all of this as a caution for those that end up with a bunch of iframe pages and don't fully understand how to fix things when the web designer on the site you're trying to display decides to change things, or when they pop their content out of your iframe.  :-)

Just offering my unsolicited advice... ;-) What do I know.
