Webcam Site Lovington New Mexico
« on: October 16, 2022, 12:57:11 PM »
I got mine up and working. I run mine through IPCAM live, works really well most of the time. Sometimes they update their servers, and my static route to their server goes down, but that's a rarity and it usually just take an email to them saying hey, my dedicated IP isn't working. Can you fix it? I tried figuring out a way to stream it locally without them, but my coding skills are not that great.

Yeah, they have worked well, have a good picture, and are cheap. The new one I have, I am not sure if it is going wrong or the coupler I have is leaking, the camera turns off now and then, so I have to bounce it. I am getting another one, but working on the post isn't easy, so it takes me a while to work on it. I am also in the process of changing the way stuff connects. I will put a waterproof box at the base of the pipes, then run all the ethernet cables into that, then put them in waterproof couplers inside. That way, the box keeps water off, and the couplers should also minimize any water leaking. Because even though they say those couplers keep water out, they don't keep heavy rain water out!

The camera looks nice - fits in well on your website setup and I can see it's raining this morning. I hadn't heard of IPCAM live before. Looks like their service starts at $12 per month? When I setup my webcam earlier this year, I tried and then purchased IPTimelapse Pro, which has a one-time up-front cost of $129 but the return on investment is equal to 11 months of IPCAM. I'm not trying to convince you to change - just an FYI. With IPTimelapse live streaming is available via YouTube, which works fine to embed the YouTube URL on your website (mine is here: https://novawx.dscloud.me/wxcamlive.php), but the embed URL link changes any time IPTimelapse is restarted (like for a Windows update), which is a bit of a pain. I also have a timelapse (https://novawx.dscloud.me/wxcam-lapse.php) and still image (https://novawx.dscloud.me/wxcam.php). I think IPTimelapse has the ability to stream locally - I'll look at the options when I have a few free minutes today and report back. I have a Reolink RLC-510A ($55 on Amazon).

IPTimelapse does have an option to stream locally in addition to YouTube and Facebook - see attached.

I hadn't heard of IPTimelapse. Is there a Linux version? All my stuff runs on assorted Linux machines (physical and virtual). I suppose I could bring up a windows VM if I had to; I'll look into it. I'd much rather source it locally and pay a one-time fee. The only thing I didn't like about IPcam, is the cost.

I believe it's Windows only.

Really, IPTimelapse is a GUI front end to FFMpeg.  It would take a lot of trial and error, but I'm sure there is a Linux solution out there.  I know some people smarter than I am, are using FFMpeg on Raspberry PI boxes.  So I'm sure it can be done.  Just depends on how good you are at Linux.  Me, I can spell Linux....

I am certainly no Guru, but if I can search Google and someone has troubleshoot it, I probably, kinda, might be able to duplicate it. That being said, I certainly can't create something from scratch and I am not a programmer, so there is that.
