Connection weirdness to CWOP
« on: August 27, 2022, 07:16:08 PM »
Over the past few weeks my 2 stations started going hit and miss with the software i have been using to send the data.  For the past years+ its flowed fine with both.
Station 1 is an acurite 5in1 using "Under the WX" software.
Station 2 is an ambient using weathersnoop 5 software.

Both are flowing off my home Mac 24/7

Now that i have a chance (work has been brutal) to try to troubleshoot the issue, I first stated with pinging cwop.aprs.net as from what i can find, its the place the data goes to and is managed from there.

I get weird results

One ping run will give me an address of 44.155.254.4 that gets a ping back and a WHOIS shows Amateur Digital Radio Comm. - I think this is where my packets need to be going as when its pinging there, my uploads go through.

Minute or two later, I ping cwop.aprs.net again and get an IP of 129.15.108.117 with no reply to the ping as it times out, and a WHOIS shows its going to University of Oklahoma (UNIVER-236-Z)

Around the same time the software uploading the data errors.

I know enough about networking to be dangerous i think.  This is perplexing and a head scratcher.

For Ref:
Station 1 FW0240
Station 2 FW6473

IDK. My CWOP uploads have been missing a fair bit lately. Scattered upload or even a few minutes at a time here and there. Something seems flakey there.

Mine was doing that as well on MB. I just recently changed to CumulusMX and everything is fine now, so it's Meteobridge.

So I went into the hosts file on the Meteobridge and changed it to the recommendations on that other thread, it's now reporting correctly all the time, so it's some kind of problem with the DNS entries they have setup.

Now the question is when it reboots do I need to reedit that hosts file each time...

I was bouncing between CWOP-3 and CWOP-5 servers with MB doing uploads. Missed quite a few uploads.

Switched over to WFL and it seems solid and sending only to CWOP-3

For now, anyway.

Yup, didn't last. Whenever there is a gap, it switches from 5 to 3 or back.

How did you modify the Meteobridge host file?

I posted this over on this thread, but it appears that this one is more related.

I was using an old meteohub, but retired it in favor of a Metop-Pi Ethernet device. I saw a gap last night (see the other post) and others had an identical drop-out.

I strongly suspect that the issue lies with the CWOP servers, not our loggers...
