I use WeatherLink.  Yesterday I down loaded Cumulus release v1.9.4 (build 1089).  When installing Avast anti-virus threw a fit, dumped the file into quarantine and rebooted my machine into a boot scan mode.

Anyone want to comment on that?

There are lots of members here who use Steve's fine software and I've never heard anyone mention that they got an AV flag when they installed it.  If you downloaded it from the source (http://sandaysoft.com/downloads) then there should be no problem.  If you're concerned, email Steve at Steve@sandaysoft.com with your concerns.

yes, I trusted what you were saying was true, I was just trying to offer a solution.  If you downloaded it from the source then contact Steve about it.

Here is a thread about the issue on the Sandaysoft forum so you're not the only one who has experienced this:  http://sandaysoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11638&p=93622&hilit=avast#p93622

I did post on the forum there.  I just registered so it may take a while before it shows.

Yep. Poor show by Avast (and Symantec which use a similar approach). The detection class is something like 'reputation' it simply means these av Program flag any exe that isn't in their database as suspect until enough people report it as a false positive.

This has happened to Cumulus before, and other 'niche' programs.

This reminded me that I hadn't download the latest stable version of Cumulus so I just went and downloaded it (and the instruction file).  No virus notice from Avast.

I'd rather get the false warning than to have it missed and get infected.  Just went through this.

For the primary site saratoga-weather.org, I use Weather-Display(bulk) and WeatherLink (graphs,NOAA reports,wxsticker).

However, for the templates, I also have VirtualVP (with a chained VirtualVP on a development system) to run:

Cumulus, Meteohub, Meteolink, VWS, WeatherCat (on Mac), WeatherSnoop, WXSolution, and wview (on Ubuntu)

On my home station: VirtualVP, WxSolution, WeatherLink, and Cumulus.

On my remote station: WxSolution 24/7 and WeatherLink for periodic downloads (I run TeamViewer 24/7 so that I can remotely close WxS, open WL, and download the contents of the datalogger to WL; I don't have VVP for this station, as it's only several months old and thus has the new firmware).

It wasn't listed on your poll, but have been using Free Wx-Wi1.02 with my Oregon Scientific WMR-968 for several years.  Things may change, however; as I changed from a Windows XP system to a Windows Vista today and things are not working to good.  Going to try resetting some sensors tomorrow to see if that helps.

I don't think FreeWx (or Wx-Wi) is available anymore.  I googled around and found this site http://www.stormplanet.com/freewx.htm but the link to the author's site and the downloads don't work.  If you can post a valid link to the software, I will add it to the poll.  Thanks!

No, you are right.  All support ended maybe 2 years ago.  I wasn't sure if anyone else was still using it or not.  I finally got my station back up and running today.  I am sure I will need to do something soon.  It was free and as long as it continues to work I use it.  Thanks for the come-back.

I'm at work so I can't look.  Is that the software that a guy in Australia made for the OS stations?  I started out with that and it worked well.  But when I added La Crosse and Davis stations I needed software that worked with all three.  I with with WUHU and have used it for years and it is flawless (and free).  The author is a member on this forum and is very responsive to suggestions and/or bugs.

I didn't know he was from Australia, but it was for OS systems.  I will keep WUHU in mind,  I have been checking out new software and hardware.  I know OS does not support the WMR968 any longer.  So far I have only had to replace the rain guage and barometer and those were will I could still get them.  When one is lost now I am out of luck.

Well, another happy customer of Cumulus here (and already put my vote)...  I have been using it for some time and have been very happy with it.  I am not saying the other programs are not good ones, I think there are many good programs, just that cumulus is the one I like the best.   :-)

Hmm, I wonder how the apparent end of future Weather Display releases will affect these poll results in the future...??  Maybe a new poll in several months to see if anything has changed there?  Just some food for thought...

Brian has said that he has the full Linux WD source (which was derived from the Windows source) available and is looking at rebuilding the Windows version from that base, so I wouldn't count Weather-Display Windows as 'dead'.. just paused in the development.

Wonderful news (to me)!!!!  I use Cumulus but I will definitely be pulling for Brian!!!!  I think the richer the wx software community is with different packages the stronger the PWS community is.  Each program, I believe, builds energy from of it's counterparts...synergy, if you will...and that energy spills over into the individual users' stations. :)

Definitely great news. I'm trying to set some money for donation.

For those using Weather Display, Brian has whipped up a companion add on with additional features. Even though it not as convenient opening a separate program the companion add on is fun to use.
I live in an apartment and for the moment am not a home weather watcher.
