Title: New option to embed YouTube or Vimeo in posts
Post by: saratogaWX on March 16, 2016, 01:41:16 PM
A new option to embed videos from YouTube or Vimeo has been added to the forum.  Let's not go crazy posting cat-in-shark-suit-riding-roomba images, but you may find it useful to post timelapse weather cam images...

To use it, use new bbCode markups with the YouTube or Vimeo URL for the video between the markup tags (just like the [img]...[/img][nobbc] tags work now).

YouTube:  [nobbc][youtube]https://www.youtube.com/....[/youtube]

Vimeo:     [vimeo]https://www.vimeo.com/....[/vimeo]

YouTube example using [youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V9p4mFEYXc[/youtube]

[youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V9p4mFEYXc[/youtube]

Best regards,
Ken

So, how do we block or disable this annoyance?

Is there an option like hiding annoying boards?

Its not auto play you just don't click on the play button and on about your business.

Thanks Ken love the embed video option.

Some people will simply always be dissatisfied, if you dont like it dont play it, are you also missing an option to hide the actual post content?

Thanks Ken, your work is really appreciated (by most)!

Ummm... no, no option to hide the videos on posts.  They should not autoplay however, so they should be no more annoying than embedded images to posts.  Just don't click on the play icon and the video shouldn't start.

No.  I have that option.

Famous last words.

I already have Gooftube blocked at the router, so I guess I'll have to add the other one there also.

Maybe limit this to one 'board' so we can block/hide that?

Is it really such a problem for you to just ignore it and not play it?

Sorry again, the software applies to the bbCode markup across all boards -- no way to limit it to a specific board or set of boards.
I did turn it off in Signatures, so that will prevent videos from showing up there. You can also turn off displays of avatars and signatures in your profile setting, but there is not a way to limit the new tags from posts.
