Event mismatch between display and app
« on: April 09, 2024, 08:53:48 AM »
I ave a GW2000B and a WH-40 that I bought as the WH5360B kit. Between 21:55 last night and 03:40 this morning it rained continuously pretty hard. My wall display shows a total of 2.56” for the event, but the app is only reporting 0.12”. What would cause the discrepancy? Power did go out briefly three times, but the whole network including the GW2000B are all on battery backup.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Shows 0.00 now, but it matched the 0.12 the app showed earlier this morning. The app is also reporting 0.00 now.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hmm bit weird it ended the rain event, and started it again (the 0.12) .

Turns out I was wrong. After double checking, the GW2000 is not on battery backup, just surge protection. Guess I need to remedy that. Thanks for trying to help.

The only thing I can think of is that the GW2000 restarted at some point. I know you have it on a UPS, but the change over to battery may not be fast enough for the GW2000 to prevent a power interruption long enough for it to shutdown/restart which in turn caused a reset of the event duration. Just musing though

Well that explains that, cool.
Although we do like puzzles :)

Edit: Because, I wanted to do the test, I unplugged my UPS, and my GW2000 which is connected to it, did restart.

If an ups is so slow that devices connected to it reboot anyway, it is basically useless.   Never have seen that kind of issue with APC CS/RS/RS Pro series that I have used last 15 years.

Of course it partly depending also from the power adapter of the Ecowitt GW, how well it tolerates the modified stepped sinewave of a small cheap upses.

I'm using an APC 600 , lower end of the APC spectrum.
You can blame the UPS, which I probably would, or also blame the unit for not having a significant capacitor presence on the power in.

Just something to be aware of. Not the OPs issues as he was not plugged into a UPS

In my case I log data from my GW2000, and A GW1100, and I can see restarts based on the runtime field.

Edit I've also seen this happen with the GW1100. I don't have the other GW1000s logging , so they may as well. Yes all of these are connected to the same UPS. And it is a crap shoot, sometimes the logging units make it through OK, sometimes not.

Edit2: But in the end, the benefit of having an UPS, even if it causes a restart, means you still have continuity of data, albeit, some metrics go to zero, same would be for someone that has a household emergency generator with a flicker power loss.

Yes, that of course depends about the location. On our environment the usual power outage lasts a second or two, worstcase maybe 10-20 seconds. Outage of several minutes is very exceptional, not occurring even yearly. If I wouldn’t have a vmware host, the ups would be quite useless.

But anyway, it is always a good practise to test devices and connections for proper functionality as this case proved.
