Charts for today, 02-09-2021:

- TEMPERATURE OF THE BARANI PRO - TEMPERATURE TEMPEST and WS80: storm behavior always fairly good, from 17:00 as well as in recent days the temperature is higher due to the lowering of the radiation and therefore to the absence of the temperature correction;

Graphs for YESTERDAY, 04-09-2021:

- TEMPERATURE OF THE BARANI PRO - TEMPERATURE TEMPEST and WS80: very strange graphs yesterday. As suggested by Mauro, I raised the probe by positioning it between the 5th and 6th helicoid, instead of between the 3rd and 4th as recommended by Barani, around 10 am! From the graphs it can be seen that the other screens have detected lower temperatures than the barani while the songs higher, this in the period between 10:35 - 12:15 then the situation is more aligned. For the rest we are as in the past few days. As you can see there are serious data gaps, caused by the power failure there at the station, and therefore the data of that time interval has been completely lost, a real shame. In that interval there was the highlight of today's rain. Thinking about it before, if I had put a powerbank in the tempest I would not have lost the data in that interval as it has a system that allows it to save them momentarily and as soon as there is current again it loads them online, different speech for the ecowitt, I could not do nothing!!

- TEMPEST DIFFERENCE COMPARED TO THE BARANI PRO: maximum deviations today much more marked both for the ws80 and the tempest, the ecowitt reached -2.6 ° C compared to the barani pro while the tempest at -1.7 ° C.

- AVERAGE WIND ECOWITT WS80 AND TEMPEST (also lost in this case the greatest wind of the day recorded during the storm):

- BURST TEMPEST AND ECOWITT WS80 (same speech as the wind):

- TEMPEST RADIATION AND ECOWITT WS80:

- HUMIDITY OF THE BARANI PRO - HUMIDITY TEMPEST - WS80 (very strange those data of the ws80):

- RAIN GRAPH: shows the minute-by-minute accumulation of the storm (blue line), the daily total as the precipitation of the storm increases (orange line), total rainfall of wh40 (yellow line) and the rain rate of wh40 (line green)
http://www.lineameteo.it/files/images/3051/efb8a943_677e_4ab7_8eff_21c8593db729.png

- MANUAL RAIN UNTIL ABOUT 10:35 AM:

- TOTAL LIGHTNING AND RAIN DURATION:

I am attaching a video of the rainfall around 8:00 am in the village, you can see that it was very intense: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oc...iew?usp=sharing

Before midnight other precipitation: Tempest station until about 10:35 had recorded an accumulation of 12.1mm, which in the minutes before midnight reached 13.8mm, therefore an increase of + 1.7mm.
For the WH40 rain gauge, on the other hand, we had an accumulation of 3.4mm which reached 5mm before midnight, therefore an increase of + 1.6mm, in line with the Tempest station.

The manual, on the other hand, yesterday morning had an accumulation of 15mm, he did not lose any data !!!, while between yesterday night and today's morning I notice an accumulation of about 2mm, I look at it from the camera so it is not really easy to distinguish the accumulation, but there we are!

Today, however, the storm did not detect any mm of rain, while the ecowitt detected 1mm at 3:00 in the morning while another 1mm at 6:50. Looking at the videos that I have saved all night I don't see any precipitation, so it may be condensation, also because the humidity was on values of 96-97%, therefore very likely

Graphs for today, 06-09-2021:

- TEMPERATURE OF THE BARANI PRO - TEMPERATURE TEMPEST and WS80: the peaks downwards correspond to today's rainy events, therefore that of 9: 20-9: 40, that of about 11:00 and that of about 12, then the situation more stable. Ws80 did well today while the storm did well until 5pm, then higher temperatures than the other screens.

- TEMPEST DIFFERENCE COMPARED TO THE BARANI PRO: maximum deviation of + 1.3 ° C for the tempest in correspondence with those temperature drops as well as the ws80 but below, -1 ° C:

- MEDIUM WIND ECOWITT WS80 AND TEMPEST (today more sustained wind):

- TEMPEST BURST AND ECOWITT WS80:

- TEMPEST RADIATION AND ECOWITT WS80, radiation with peaks and rapid drops always due to the passage of cloud cover:

- HUMIDITY OF THE BARANI PRO - HUMIDITY TEMPEST- WS80:

Precipitation today of 2.2mm for the storm while 0.3mm for the ecowitt. The situation is very strange to me as the station detected rain even in moments when it really did not rain but there was very strong wind in those moments, I would not want the wind to influence the readings in my case, perhaps due to vibrations of the pole to which it is attached.

I attach a screen of those moments, in the other situations in which it rained, the ecowitt also detected it but to a lesser extent!

This afternoon, in view of the rains of the next few days, I thought of putting some tie rods on the pole of the storm so as to decrease the vibrations, in fact today going to the station I saw that actually some vibration was there when moving the pole, now it is much more stable, so from this point of view there should be no more problems.

Graphs for today, 09-09-2021:

- TEMPERATURE OF THE BARANI PRO - TEMPERATURE TEMPEST and WS80: good behavior for the tempest, much less for the ws80

- TEMPEST DIFFERENCE COMPARED TO BARANI PRO: temporal deviation max of + 0.7 ° C and -0.8 ° C while for ws80 max of 1.3 ° C and -0.8 ° C

LATEST GRAPHICS OF THE SERIES, I WILL MISS YOU !!

Graphs of yesterday, 11-09-2021: from 12:00 onwards IFTTT has not saved more data in the google sheet, so in the graphs the data of the tempest are up to about 12. Too bad, it would have been interesting!

- TEMPERATURE OF THE BARANI PRO - TEMPERATURE TEMPEST and WS80: tempest good when there is data (on the tempest website there is no data, no wrong news must pass, on tempest there is no missing one while IFTTT does a bit of a tantrum ). WS80 in recent days suffers a lot in these conditions, from 7:30 to 12 always above the barani, from 12 to 13 it is slightly below, from 13 to 16 always above, around 16:20 it is below about -2.6 ° C compared to the barani, too many, then a little more aligned!

- TEMPEST DIFFERENCE COMPARED TO THE BARANI PRO: tempest max deviation of -0.7 ° C (even if the other data is missing) while for the ws80 max of -2.6 ° C and + 1.7 ° C compared to the barani.

- MEDIUM WIND ECOWITT WS80 AND TEMPEST (wind slightly higher today):

- TEMPEST BURST AND ECOWITT WS80:

- TEMPEST RADIATION AND ECOWITT WS80:

- HUMIDITY OF THE BARANI PRO - HUMIDITY TEMPEST- WS80:

- RAINFALL:

- LIGHTNING: 748

Yesterday the ecowitt underestimated by about 23% compared to the manual rain.
The complete data from yesterday are these:
- manual: 14mm

- ecowitt: 11.8mm

- tempest: about 33.1mm

I got this idea: the Tempest station in my station has always suffered, since I installed it, from vibrations caused by not directly fixing the station to the main pole.

Let me explain: in my position I had to put an L-bracket fixed to the main pole, as the main poles were 4 meters high, and even if I would have put it on top of the pole I could not have done it directly as the pole is 40mm, while the station accepts poles up to 32mm (1 inch). Also in the bracket I had to do the same thing, as it is also 40mm and therefore I could not fix it directly to the bracket, but I had to put a 32mm plastic tube attached to the L-bracket.

So with all these additions of parts to the main pole I have lost the stiffness of the main pole; even putting some tie rods the thing has not improved that much.

Having said that, yesterday last day of testing, my friend came to get it and he will test it by comparing it with davis, he told me that he prefers not to publish all the graphs like I did, but he gave me the consent to publish the rainfall data that it will detect.

Good evening to all guys. These days the tests have continued normally, my friend has installed the Tempest station on the roof of the university so as to compare it with the davis pro 2 already on the roof.

The station, as you can see from the images, is installed on the low wall, fixed on a long wooden plank. He chose this position because by making various tests he noticed that, when the station is fixed by means of a support by means of a screw, even moving the axis in such a way the station did not report anything, while when we did some tests in the countryside by myself, before disassembling the station, punching almost imperceptible the station scored 0.1mm while punching harder the station scored up to 0.5mm.

So two different damaging systems mount different behaviors in this case.

Subsequently, the station will mount it on a pole so as to verify the behavior in person.

Here is the installation of the station: as you can see at the bottom of the terrace on the right the vp2 pro while the funnel near the station is a manual rain gauge.

As already mentioned, some parameters have not been taken into consideration, such as the maximum temperature, minimum humidity and wind due to incorrect installation, mainly addressed for the rain gauge test.

The tests show that both the manual rain and the davis scored 0.8mm while the storm marked 1.6mm.

I add more info on resolution and diameter of the manual and details of the vp2:

- The manual has a diameter of 25 cm. Measurement resolution 0.1 mm. It is equipped with an evaporation inhibition system through the use of a known quantity, pre-weighed in the laboratory, of glycerin oil.

- The Davis Vantage Pro 2 rain gauge was laboratory calibrated on September 3, 2021 and will be recalibrated every 3 months. The funnel remained the original one. The single-chamber, on the other hand, made it possible to obtain accuracy values of up to 3%, a difference from the previous version which stopped at 8%.

- Davis is equipped with Sensirion SHT31, a new version anemometer with new bearings and single tank rain gauge.

Data as of yesterday, 9-28-21. The overestimates of the Tempest rain gauge continue, albeit on a smaller scale than the last event (slightly less than 50%, considering the 1.1mm of the manual as a reference). Davis marks 1mm instead of 1.1mm as it detects every 0.2mm. The rain shower was very short but intense.

It should rain again in the next few days, so more data will add to what we already have. After that, we'll send the data to weatherflow and see what they'll put in place as a calibration.

Here is the data for the month of September, with added the data of 30-9-21 with 0.8mm of the storm, davis 0.4mm while manual 0.5mm.

Day 01-10-2021 instead accumulations of 1.0mm for Davis while 2.5mm for Tempest (the manual could not verify this).

I update that with the data collected so far, to which today's data will be included, the weatherflow will apply a sensor calibration with an 8-point curve, since it has been noted that the difference between tempest and davis is incremental depending on the intensity.

This is a graph that shows just that.

Furthermore, news of a few days ago, the weatherflow has applied the 8-point calibration to the station, as previously explained. So now the station is running with the new calibration.

First accumulations after the new calibration. Now the opposite situation than before, now underestimates compared to Davis:

Tempest 4.6 mm.Davis 8.2 mm.

Contacted WeatherFlow again and now we are waiting for an answer. We'll see.

I add some data.

These are from day 7-10-21:
- Tempest: 4.6 mm - Davis: 8.2 mm - Manual: 8mm

These are from day 8-10-21
- Tempest: 17.7mm. - Davis VP2: 25mm.

These are from day 9-10-21 (today):
- Davis: 4.4mm
- Tempest: 4.6mm

The weather flow explained to us that the 8-point calibration, as in the case of pressure, takes place with an automatic algorithm and in a progressive manner. The improvement of the data compared to yesterday is linked to this. They told us that in a couple of days the data should be perfectly aligned. In fact today's data are almost identical, we will see in the coming days.

Good evening everyone. I update the post by communicating today's data (alas) for the moment partial until about 7 pm. Partial because a Davis datalogger cable has probably been disconnected and therefore the data from 7 pm are no longer loaded, tomorrow will solve the problem and we will communicate the data.

In recent days we discovered that the calibration had not been applied very well, seeing the data we see that some are "high" compared to the davis, we got in touch with the weatherflow, noticed that the calibration was not active and the reapplied on Monday morning.

What happened is not understood, our lack or incorrect application of them is not known, the important thing is the result, hoping that this new calibration goes well.

This is the table updated until 7pm today:
1. Froggit HP1000SE PRO;
2. GATEWAY GW1003 (ws80/wh40/wh32-ep in barani standard)
3. GATEWAY WH2650 (3rd station)(1 WH32-EP METAL, 1 WH40)

It looks like the humidity gets a little richer on the Tempest unit when the humidity gets above 85 percent. Tempest looks like it tracks pretty good to the Davis though.
I'm still kicking the idea around about getting one.

Thanks,

It will probably be due to the poor installation.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

Hi everyone, sorry for the absence in the discussion but I was too messed up.

So in the last few days my friend, with the weatheflow have worked hard to be able to obtain an accurate calibration even in that section where the station was detecting incorrect rainfall. After several attempts they have managed to get the right calibration and the latest data are encouraging and are much more aligned with the manual rain gauge.

For our part we did everything necessary to provide the data in the best possible way and they did theirs too.

However, the problem remains for those who will buy the station; to be sure of the data that it will detect, the station must make comparisons with other stations (or at least a manual rain gauge) in order to verify the calibration of the station. I understand that this can be a bit tedious and a bit complicated to do, but it is the only way to accept the correct calibration.

Having said that, I am attaching the latest data collected, the tests can now be considered completed.

October summary.
Davis minimum: 17.3 ° C.
Tempest minimum 17.2 ° C.
Davis maximum humidity: 85.8%.
Tempest maximum humidity: 86.7%.
Davis maximum pressure: 1019.0hPa.
Tempest maximum pressure: 1019.3hPa.
Davis minimum pressure: 1015.9hPa.
Tempest minimum pressure: 1015.8hPa.
Davis rain: 151.4 mm.
Rain tempest: 152.4 mm.
Manual rain: 148.3mm

Day 6-11-2021: Tempest 0.9 mm, Davis 1.0 mm.

Yesterday: Tempest 11.2 mm. Manual 10.7 mm. Davis 10.6 mm.

Today: Tempest 16.0mm Manual 15.3mm Davis 14.8mm.

Good evening everyone. I publish the latest data collected: there have been great improvements, now the data between tempest and vp2 seem well aligned. These data:

23-11-2021: davis 0,6mm, storm 0,5mm

25-11-2021: davis 9.2mm, storm 9.2mm

The rain of 11/25/2021 was variable, at times weak, at times strong and at times very strong.

Tonight instead: davis 1,8mm while tempest 1,8mm; today's accumulation complete of 5,2mm for the davis while 4,8mm for the tempest

That's all for now.

I would add, for information, that in the weatherflow house they are working to create the booster that allows you to recharge the batteries in the station faster, a very useful accessory for users who do not have a day that allows them to fully recharge the batteries.

I just recently bought one of these stations and have been comparing it to two different stations. I am using a cut down sht31 in a Barani pro shield and a modified Davis 24 hr shield with a 31 inside. The modified shield has no fan and the bottom plate is a solid plate and the 24 hr core is replaced with a daytime fars plate that eliminates the sensor chamber and tubes so get passive air flow inside shield. Now the problems i have encountered with the wf station. A week or so back a strong cold front came in with winds of thirty mph plus gust and heavy rain, during this the wf readings went haywire with the wind direction moving around to the southeast and staying there and i was getting wind peaks of 50 to 70 mph. During this the rain fall was running higher than my eight inch tipping bucket and my eight inch manual gauge. After the rain i brought the wf station inside and found the plate below the sonic sensors was completely wet with bubbles of rain on it. I used a paper towel to absorb the drops, not supposed to rub the plate because it has a special coating on it, and when i returned it the readings were back to normal. Now the rain showed a little over a tenth too much. Now with a heavy rain and light winds the readings were within a hundreth of each other. The temperatures between the three have been doing real well except with cold nights and calm winds the pro and modified shield run a degree or so cooler than the wf shield, probably theromass of the two large shields compared to the small wf shield causing the lower reading. When the temperature at night didn't get low all three read the same. Another thing about the rain sensing of the wf station is i had a dad of misty, drizzley rain which turned out to be .08 inches for the day but the wf station showed no rain had fallen because it needs rain drops to record rain. Now today we had another strong front come in with high winds and heavy rain and i got the same results wrong wind direction and winds peaking at 50 to 60 mph. This time knowing about the rain drops on the bottom plate i just took a paper towel out to the shield and let it absorb the rain drops off the plates and that did it again, by the time i got back in the wind and direction were back to normal. So high wind and heavy rain mess up the readings on this station. Now before the front came in we got a heavy rain but light winds and the wf station showed .67 and the eight inch gauges both showed .68 so without the wind it was just fine and so far mostly it compares real well with the other two stations but does have some problems at times. The station uses the sht31 with the factory membrane. One thing i really like about the wf station is that in my area we get dense fog nearly eveynight this time of year and the larger shields get wet inside and this causes the humidity reading in the morning to take about an hour to get to the reading of the wf station which when the humidity is at 100% all night as soon as the fog starts to burn off the humidity starts to go down sometimes reading as much as 9% lower than the other two bigger shields. The high humidity is why i don't run my R.M. Young fars because of the large volume of air it pulls into the sensor chamber it takes a long time for the temperature and humidity readings to get where they should be. The wf is a nice little station but does have some major problems that would keep me from using it as a primary station.

Hi JerryG.  First of all thanks for the post, also congratulations for the sensors and for the sunscreens you have.  As for the problem you have encountered with the wind, this is the first time I hear that anyone has had this problem.  Have you communicated this to weatherflow?  What did they tell you if you communicated it.  This seems to me personally very strange, I would not want it to be a defective product.  As for the false readings of the rain with strong winds, I also noticed that they are overestimated compared to the comparison rain gauge, this is due in my opinion to the pole support which is very undersized compared to the size of the station, this therefore begins to vibrate slightly it is due to false readings, this in fact does not happen with light winds and in those cases the readings are correct (however we had to calibrate the station because initially even when the wind was reading it overestimated the rains).  For the drizzle with fog I do not know, I have not yet had such a phenomenon from me.  I was also very satisfied with the temperature and humidity sensor.  In short, if you haven't done so yet, tell weatherflow about your problems and see what they say, the problem you have with the wind is very strange. For the problem with the haptic rain gauge a possible solution would be to enlarge the support for the pole or flat base, personally I have some ideas in mind to try, let's see.
