Where will this year's 'I' storm be?
« on: August 24, 2023, 10:50:41 AM »
For some reason, the 'I' named storm  is often among the most destructive.

We've already had Franklin, Harold and Gert, none of which posed much, if any threat other than heavy rains.

Emily may regenerate, but is headed north and out to sea.  There are a couple of other possibles, but none so far seem to be  of concern.

Look like the Gulf and possibly Florida later this week.

May develop tonight.

5PM has it just due west of me Wednesday at 1 AM.
Of course that's 2 and half days from now.

Now forecast to come in as a Major, the 'I' storm may live up to the reputation.  Also curving south and east, so Tampa maybe.

Now the Press is yammering about the 'super moon' adding to flooding problems.  Higher tides maybe?

Not just my imagination:

"Since 1954, 96 tropical storm names have been retired in the Atlantic, which occurs when storms reach a certain threshold and are considered too deadly and costly to remain on the hurricane season naming list. Fourteen storms beginning with the letter "I" (including Iota in 2020, a name that is technically a letter of the Greek alphabet) have been retired. That accounts for a significant number compared to the runner-up, "F," which has only 10 retired storms."

Also seems weird that we have dual "I" storms with Irwin in  the East Pacific.
