Whoa....that is a change. Bye Steve, enjoy retirement. Thank you for all your work. And thank you for making Cumulus MX source available. Hopefully someone will pick it up and keep the ball going. You didn't say why you wouldn't or couldn't make Cumulus 1 source available, I'd be curious to know why.
-
Well that sucks. I'm hoping someone can take the source code and do something with it.
I had switched from VWS to Cumulus right before he went to retirement. If Cumulus totally goes away, I'll have to switch to WD. WD is more complicated than I need. But if that is all that's out there...
-
Just no updates for new stuff that may come out, it's been like that for several years with non MX anyway.
-
Steve is retiring after 15 years, and I wish him all the best!
We're going to try and preserve what we can of his software, forum and wiki .. more on that later.
-
Hopefully it will go open source and get on Github etc.
-
Still using 1.9.4 and still very satisfied! Thanks Steve!

1.9.4-b1079 here.

Steve is a good guy. I hope he enjoys retirement as we all should when we are ready.
I hope he releases the code for Cumulus MX, and maybe a programmer can add AmbientWeather.net data API to it.
-
I certainly can't hold anything against Steve for retiring...congratulations to him!!!
A good (and smart!) guy!!!!
-
I just went over to Sandaysoft and poked around the forum a little, saw some familiar names...it still amazes me at the sheer volume of information on that website...some very good information, too!!!! The caliber of the forum's members....of the highest!!! I'm probably nearing the end of my tinkering with weather software (nothing ominous, just getting a little older) but I hope that that info can be saved for folks coming behind us. It'd be a shame for it not to be available.
-
I'm transferring some of the MX info to the Wiki, so if that can preserved not everything about MX will be lost.
Thought... How good is the Wayback Machines archive of the forum?
-
The Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) is hit-or-miss recording forum postings (in my experience). Great that you are Wiki-izing the MX info.
Steve responded to me that he's working with somebody to assume hosting of the Wiki/Forum already, but will keep me in mind if that doesn't come to fruition.

Fingers crossed that something can be worked out. I also hope someone who programs can keep developing with the MX source code.

Intheswamp I think your post just sums up how I always found that forum , a lot of constructive feedback, ideas, solutions and I certainly myself found it the place to always discuss constructively and implement ideas and thoughts. its a great loss to the community and hope it re-appears in the very near future.
Whilst Cumulus never went through radical changes in recent times and or supported the newer crop of hardware , but it remained stable and easy to design for simply it never went through continuous changes and that old scenario fix one thing break another..
Lets not forget Steve kept it free only cost was your time ..
if and who ever takes it over I hope they maintain the high standard and not bow to masses..
-
I do appreciate the Cumulus software and even though it was free, apparently I was one of the few that actually donated over the years according what I gathered from Steve's post.
I was upset when he announced it was no longer supported, right then I should have stopped using instead I continued now going on 5 years of weather data stored using the desktop Cumulus format at my new location.
I would really like to see the code 1.9.4 continued or released to open source for others at least for any new hardware Davis Instruments might put out. If not I'm stuck never updating should the Davis equipment be incompatible because my personal website relies on the current Cumulus.
-
Howdy Randy. Yeah, I shareware/donationware has always had a rough go of it. I've tried to send Steve enough for a biscuit and coke. The last time I sent some he responded he was in an area (there road trip) that it would buy him and his wife dinner and a bottle of wine!!!! <grin> Let's just say I don't think that wine was of wine-snob quality. But, he appreciated it. ;)
I don't think I've ever ran a piece of software that has been more stable than Cumulus.
-
Steve has asked me to host the Cumulus Wiki (and I'm preparing it now -- it will be a subdomain of wxforum.net). He's also found a host/admin for the Forum too so all that useful stuff will not be lost in the future :)

Excellent Stuff Ken. thanks for keeping Cumulus Wiki alive!

Now, I've gotta ask...how many times has Ken saved our butts???? =D> \:D/
Thanks Ken!!!!!! UU

...and to Steve, for not simply abandoning shop and leaving folks stranded, UU UU UU a big "THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!" =D> =D> =D> UU UU UU

@ken - Many, many thanks !
The wiki is almost a bible, not only for the 'core' stuff, but also many of the 'bolt-ons'.

Very much appreciated Ken. It is a wonderful resource for new users, and even for those of us that have been around for a while. I have often searched and pointed to the Wiki when a new user, or an old inexperienced one, has encountered an issue and asking for help.
Enjoy,
Paul

Thanks to Steve Loft for entrusting me with hosting for the Cumulus Wiki for the future.
The software is upgraded to 1.31.1, and the contents cloned from the current Wiki as of 26-Oct-2018.
The new Wiki is at https://cumuluswiki.wxforum.net/a/Main_Page and is ready for use. If you had an ID on the current Wiki, your credentials are the same on the new Wiki.
Best regards,
Ken

That looks great Ken =D> I have the URL bookmarked. Is there a quick link to it somewhere on this forum other than this thread?
Thank you,
Paul
-
Yes, I'll be adding it to the WXForum.net 'News' area. Steve has already changed the links on the Sandaysoft/forum.
I've added a Software/Download page on the Wiki with all the current Cumulus stuff (now with Mx source, released by Steve today).
-
I've never used Cumulus or its forum before, but yesterday I googled a weather topic and the forum came up as one of the top links.
I found what I was looking for, too!
-
Thanks Ken!

Please note time / date is UK
The (Cumulus) forum will be moving on Sunday 04/11/2018
postby freddie » 11:20 Thu Nov 1st 2018
Hi all,
With Steve's blessing, I have agreed to host the Cumulus forum from Sunday 04/11/2018 onwards.
The plan is to shut down the forum at sandaysoft.com at 10:00 UTC on Sunday. The forum will be made live in the new location from 11:00 UTC on Sunday. The hour's downtime will be used to migrate the database and perform some testing.
The URL for the new location will be: https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/
A redirect will be created from sandaysoft.com/forum to the new location. This will ensure that links in search engine results will work.
The forum is already available in the new location. Feel free to log on and take a look and make some test posts. You will need to log on at the new location, as "remember me" settings don't get migrated. Usernames and passwords are carried across to the new location, so your existing credentials will work there. If you can't remember your password then please use the password retrieval facility on the login page. You may like to add the email address administrator@hosiene.co.uk to your email whitelist, so that forum emails aren't treated as spam/junk. The forum at the new location currently contains the content of sandaysoft.com/forum as at 29/10/2018. Note that any posts you make at the new location will be removed when the database is re-migrated on Sunday.
If there is a problem with the migration (unlikely - but you never know!) then the forum will revert back to sandaysoft.com while the problem is resolved. If this occurs then notices will be placed at both locations.
Regards,
Niall (aka freddie!)
Freddie

Ahh.. that pesky Euro format dd/mm/yyyy or USA format of mm/dd/yyyy.
The Cumulus forum is moving to the new URL on 04-November-2018. Thanks beteljuice for the notification and clarification.
-
This just doesn't flow as nice. 04-November-2018... as November 04-2018
-
International date formats vary widely some using / , some using . and some using - as delimters -- the trick is to use one that has the same meaning world-wide.
The official ISO format is YYYY-MM-DD (like 2018-11-04) which is non-ambiguous (but not commonly used).
The real fun starts when using the / format for the date where the USA uses mm/dd/yyyy while pretty much everybody else uses the dd/mm/yyyy format so when dd<=12 AND mm<=12, the date is confusing to some part of the world.
-

Illogical Captain ....
What's the date ? - November
What's the date ? - 4th. (of what ?) November.
I believe to avoid ambiguity International standards for eg. Inoculations etc. is 4th. November 2018.
eg. Month is always proper noun, not a number.
-
What was the name of that film starring Tom Cruise? Born on July 4? It should have been according to the US rules on date structure. Doesn't flow does it? There's a clue there chaps!
-
Good point but hated that movie. :-P

I’m another still using 1.9.4, not missed a beat in over 5 years
