How to mount on roof?
« on: May 05, 2025, 07:09:51 PM »
So thanks to this site, I bought a Ecowitt HP2561 station a few years ago that had the salt proof sensors that worked and still does an amazing job on a small Marshall Island. Ive since moved back to Austin and bought another new Ecowitt and wanna mount it on the ridge of our roof on a pole about 15' high. Wind speed is the most important attribute to me since I sail and race sailboats and I want an unobstructed view. Just curious what other folks have tried and what works without making an ordeal out of it??? Kinda hope to stay away from guide wires but that may be necessary.

Appreciate any help!!

I have used an old "Dish Network" Soffit board mount that had short pole for the dish and the adjustments for the pole.  Then used 2 hose clamps to clap on a longer pole to that as Hi as I liked, which for me was about an additional 6 feet.   This one on Amazon costs about $35

Mounting to the roof means putting holes through the roof.

I'd look for a way to mount to the side of a wall instead.  The preferred mounting style somewhat depends on whether you can identify a stud location behind the siding, and how big the eave overhang is, but a mount similar in style to the image in the message above can be mounted to a wall.

Fifteen feet above the ridgeline is a lot, particularly if you ever have to take it down for maintenance. Personally, I'd use a shorter mast and accept that your wind data isn't going to be perfect.  In any case, its also not going to be perfect at 15 feet above the ridgeline either.

This was my WS2000 a few years ago.  That array now has a broken temp sensor and I only used for the Rain Gauge so I removed the extension pole.  I now have a Ecowitt WS85 in a different location.

But I could have gone higher with the pole with out cables.  The 2 hose clamps made for easy service access.
