Might Be Switching Stations
« on: October 13, 2024, 11:55:42 AM »
I have been operating my Logia 5-in-1 WS for just over a year & a half, but it has already aged quite a bit. The barometer readings are way off, and the humidity is usually either lower or higher than the amount it says.

I was scrolling through Amazon to find a Weather Station I'd like, and I came across the AcuRite 01535M Iris, it looks pretty good, but I just wanna know if it is going to provide accurate data. Anyone have any information?

Were you planning to transfer data from the Iris system to some kind of 'published' weather system? Do you have a plan for doing that?

I don't have any AcuRite equipment, but just looking at the Amazon product page I see what looks like a problem. See the screenshot.

While you might think you'll just buy the AccuRite Hub, from what I see that is discontinued last year.  See this thread: https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=45183.0

Pretty sad to see this kind of deception from Amazon and AcuRite.  :(

My suggestion for you is to forget AcuRite and look at Ecowitt  instead. My preference is to avoid the 'all-in-ones' and buy a system with individual components. Something like this: https://shop.ecowitt.com/products/gw1103?variant=41418886250658&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw3624BhBAEiwAkxgTOui5t8BtShGxBgzoplKMSPM5w-omc0wcH9igtwZD60dBF24aohUhhRoCetoQAvD_BwE

Just found out that the weather station does not send data to Wunderground, so I might be looking at the website to find one of my choice. Thanks for your opinion.

How about this Logia 7 in 1? **Logia 7-in-1 Wi-Fi Weather Station with Solar** It transmits every 12 seconds. Most of these new stations only transmit to Wunderground every 30 seconds to a minute. Some only 5 minute increments. That is ridiculous. The older stations transmitted every few seconds. You have to be cautious of what you are buying, and what the station will do. This one also sends to Weathercloud.

I am unsure with Logia..  I pointed out that the barometer and wind reports are inaccurate. I once got 11 mph during a severe thunderstorm, but it was way windier than that. I am going to go to the AcuRite website to see what there is.

I would go with the Iris. I only say this because I have had a hard time with the signal on the Atlas. Just be aware, that acurite does not allow you to send data to anyone but Wunderground. You will also need to take the station apart once a year and oil the fan, to be sure it doesn't die. Also there are two bearings for the anemometer that will need dry lube too once a year. You also want to be sure you get an Iris with two solar panels, or your thermometer will be crazy high as the sun sets. I have had an Iris for 8 years at least that is still going. I have replaced the bearings, the fan and the thermo/hygro sensor all once.

Wasn't really planning on getting the Atlas, I don't necessarily need a UV/Solar Sensor. If I get an AcuRite, I will most certainly get an Iris.

I might just use WD for WeatherCloud data.

I have also considered switching to Ambient.. the displays are nice and simple, and they connect to WU. Not planning on getting any other extensions. (Pool Sensor, AQI Monitor, etc.)

Any thoughts?

Ambient displays connect to Wunderground, but some do not do rapidfire, even though the sensor updates every 16 seconds. Some displays only update every 30 sec. to a minute. I would only buy what does rapidfire. The 2902 only updates every minute. Not good.

My Ambient WS-2000 console updates to WU approximately every 10 seconds.

I was planning WS-2000, if you buy it on Amazon, does it come with the Lightning Detector (In the link below.)?

Note that when you buy an integrated gateway + display,as in the Ambient WS-2000, if there is a problem with either one of those functions you will need to replace the [expen$$$ive] console.

Compare that to a standalone "gateway" -- such as the Ecowitt 1200 that can be found on Amazon for $30.  Separating out the gateway function from a display function offers significant value. :)

I think the lightning detector is not included in the basic bundle for $299.99. It is included in the Storm Bundle package for $380.84 which also includes the radiation shield to mount the lightning detector in for outdoor installation.

Got it, probably wasn't planning to get the lightning detector anyway, I just want the console and the sensor, that's all I need  :-)

Let us know how you like it compared to the Logia. Maybe the Logia needs to be taken apart and serviced? Most of these stations need work every year. It's good to have a second station as a backup.

My experience with acccurite was poor at best.  Data loggers died very quickly.  Gave up after the second replacement needed replacing.

The Atlas was the worst weather station yet.   The 5 in1 before that was okay but is slow in wind data reporting often missing gust.  Both atlass aand 5 in 1 have limited top speed windd measuring.  The atlas was capped at 22 mph for some unknown reason.  Accurite toook a nose dive in quality during the Atlas development.

How often data is updated is especially important on wind.  Accurite misses a fair amount of wind data.  That seems unimportant for a home station but slow reporting takes some of the fun out of home stations.  You see the trees bend,  and you wonder what the gust wind speed was at that moment.  Often missed by accurite systems.

I changed my mind about the AcuRite, thanks for your opinion though, I am pretty much locked in on the Ambient Weather WS-2000.

Update: Going for the Ambient WS-2000 Weather Station, I've watched many reviews of this station, and I think I am comfortable with getting this station. Though it is going to be a bit of a costly one though. Wish me luck  :-)

Operated this weather station for 2 months, had to do some slight calibrations for elevation and location of the weather station, but I am LOVING IT! Thank you guys so much for the info on this weather station.
