Logitech - Notebooks Pro versus 4000 Pro
« on: October 26, 2007, 07:33:56 PM »
Pros of the Notebooks Pro versus 4000:

1) Better resolution and quality
2) Auto focus
3) Lens is covered with a flat piece glass or plastic for very easy cleaning (unlike 4000 which needs patience and a Q-tip)
4) Smaller
5) Colors seem more vibrant
6) Cost less

Cons:

1) Clippy for mounting is probably great for notebooks but sucks for stationary webcam. I used a clear glass to mount it on for now.
2) USB cord is only 3' long. So I had to buy another USB extension cord which ended up (because I was in a hurry) costing more than the camera!
3) Low light conditions not as good as the 4000

I'm losing light tonight but I should be able to play with it in the morning. This looks like it will be a great little cam, especially for the price!

Really? I thought the night picture was pretty dark compared to the 4000...

Going to tinker with it tomorrow and see what I come up with.

I agree. The night picture is not near as good as your 4000.

Be interesting to see how your tinkering works out.

Darker, yes...but that is something that can (hopefully) be corrected.  What I was
referring to was the increased sharpness compared to the 4000.  Well, at least comparing
it to the last 24 hour video on your site.

As I was hoping.... it appears to be the software. Once I installed the Pros software and let it take over light control, things have improved.

I really like the w  i  d  e  field of view with this camera.

I just checked it out Tom and it looks great. The W   I   D   E field of view is another thing I like about that camera too. By the way, I ordered the Carl Zeiss Logitech notebook and hope to have that up in the next couple of weeks. Just waiting for the business owner to get high speed. Hopefully I won't have to wait to much longer.

And surpluscomputers is officially out of Notebooks Pro cameras

It appears the folks in the WD forums gobbled a bunch of them up (although several here told me they got one too).

For those who missed out on the INCREDIBLE deal... Newegg has them for $55 + shipping, brand new.

(Which is still a pretty good deal!)

Thanks again to Chris for pointing out this incredible camera. It's a steal folks!
