Title: Atlas Temperature Accuracy
Post by: Rgv20 on August 04, 2023, 10:00:30 AM
Hello Atlas owners, what do you all think of the Atlas Temperature Accuracy especially in the summer Texas heat? We have been having a scorcher down here in deep south texas and my Atlas has been running about 3 degrees higher than surrounding stations. FYI I'm surrounded by Ambient PWS, however I do have notice that Ambients run a bit higher on Dew Point readings compare to my Atlas.

It depends on where I mount the sensor in my yard. The results can vary. It usually runs a degree or two higher than the Fine offset (ambient) 7 in 1 when they are mounted together.

Same with me. My Atlas runs 1-2° higher than my neighbor's ambient ws-2000 during the daytime. Nighttime seems to be pretty much the same.

My current replacement Atlas is running 1-2° higher than the one it replaced.

No surprise, but T/H accuracy comes down to basically three things.... siting, the sensor itself, and radiation shield quality, be it passive or aspirated. Shield quality, I would think, being of concern for most, then siting, then sensor quality being last. The best sensor in the world is only as good as the other two allow.

My Accurite runs 5 degrees higher (in the sun) than my Davis Vantage Vue. Pretty disappointed with it.

The motor is bad. It should not be that much hotter.

Got two of them. One at home and one at vacation home- both run 5 degrees or so hot.

Put them in the shade.

Pop off the bottom radiation shield and be sure the motor is running. Also there is a thin fiber filter that surrounds the sensor. This can get dust build up and block air flow. I have had to clean mine more than once.

On my Davis you can adjust any settings that are off with an offset. For example my humidity was off so I was able to adjust it to match my three other meters.
Accurite got that option anywhere in the settings? It's a 5 n 1

You can adjust them on the display, but it doesn't go out like that to WUnderground, at least it didn't used to. Also you can calibrate MyAcurite.

So you have 2 bad aspirating motors. They do not run that much hotter with a proper operating fan AND proper placement.
