I can report at this time that Kevin's Software is still maintaining accurate weather data collection from the now unsupported Hub. I am still updating Weather Underground and other weather websites that the software supports. What a wonderful surprise. It looks like the hub is making 1-second attempts at sending data to Acurite trying to connect with the server that once acknowledged it's existence and gave it life. I can find no record of it rebooting or shutting down at this time. It looks like the Hub lives on. It would appear that as Jeff Goldblum was correct in Jurassic Park when he said... "Life finds a way"  [tup] 8-)

UPDATE: Software has stopped working

It sounds like Kevin's software is giving a good enough response to preventing rebooting.

The next issue will be what will happen when the SmartHUB reboots or loses power.  If it does keep sending to wunderground after a reboot, the next thing to worry about will be the time setting.  If the time is wrong, that will cause problems with the rain totals, but everything else should continue to work fine.

Now, it may be possible that Kevin wrote his software so that it, not the SmartHUB, is handling the rain totals.  Remembering his past comments about how his program works, that might be true.  If so, maybe his software will continue to work just fine.

As far as I know, the software only reads network traffic from the hub. The software does calculate the rain totals. I have powered down and rebooted the hub a number of times. So far so good. The time that the hub is set to internally is not controllable anymore, so I guess we will see what happens with that.

I'm guessing you're all good, then.  I'd keep a good watch on the rain totals, but I expect they'll be fine.

Thank you for your input, George! Looks like I am good for now. Do you happen to know if the new Acurite Equipment will generate the (weatherdata.cvs) file that so many web scripts want to use? My whole web site is based on this one little file for updating everything live. Kevin's software is generating it for me now. I have the web server on a local network so I have a lot of flexibility.

That would be something you'd have to have Kevin.

Kevins Software finally quit updating my server, and Weather Underground. As I heard on another thread... IT'S DEAD, JIM!!!

I can go into debug mode and see current weather Data, but I believe it is not getting parsed due to the Current date/time from Acurite is no longer a part of the string being echoed out. All the data is there though. Kevin if you are watching this thread, I think this is fixable.

So close, but I agree it is fixable.

Well our weather station is still reporting to us via the display console, but my Server and Web weather connections are down. I really like this equipment. Time to move on. Does Acurite still have display consoles with USB ports that allow you to capture data locally as well as send it to Acurite? The new hub replacement is of no use to me as it is encrypted and the data is not accessible. Acurite did a good job at cutting off the data except through them. Reminds me of the mobile phone companies policies. They refer to it as, "Leakage" Screw you, Acurite!

My 2 using Meteobridges are still working also but has anyone disconnected the power to there hub to find out if it will continue to work?  My plan B is to revert back to the USB consoles if I have to but really like the setup I have now.  My hope is that someone either cracks the firmware in the hub or figures a easy work around that makes it usable for us to get our data from these devices so we can feed our websites.  What is it with these companies that don't give an option to put Our live data on our own networks and give us an easy way for us?  Seems to me that opening it up and giving this option to people so they don't have to jump thru a bunch of hoops to get it would draw a bunch more sales.  I have a hard time grasping at a reason why these companies won't do this.  Maybe Acurite should open source the hub firmware?  Sure would be better than turning it into landfill!

I have not powered down mine. On the meteobridge forum, I read where one user did, and had a slight issue at first, but it seemed to clear up after fiddling with it. Also one user started from scratch and flashed to meteobridge again to get online.

I am afraid to unplug mine. I am leaving it alone for now.

Hi all,

I've been very busy the last couple of years, but I'm going to work on removing the "Acu-Rite time" dependency from my app very soon. Stay tuned...

I just completed (hopefully) a fix for this issues. I've done away with the AcuriteDateTime variable. I don't currently have a test environment of my own, so I've just sent ColoradoWeather a beta version to test (thanks Jack).

OHH awesome! I sent you a PM kevin a few days ago about this and that suggestion for using PC time but removing the dependency altogether is sweet!
I'd love to test also... can't be any worse than what I'm using now which is nothing.

You will be able to download the real deal anytime now. Kevin is a busy guy but he still took the time to fix this issue. I am very happy that it is going to help you out.

The latest version is now available for download.

Latest build is 2019.03.04.2300 and includes the following changes:
Allows continued use of Acu-Rite smartHUB despite permanent shutdown by Acu-Rite. Modified code to no longer require "Acu-Rite time" since this device has been shut down by Acu-Rite.

Awesome! Working perfect! I really hated having the thought of scrapping everything. Now I can keep it going till the gauge breaks and I just get another brand one day.
Thanks kevin!

May or may not be related since it started after the shut down of acurite support but is still happening.
My rain gauge keeps saying 1.67 inches of rain even after I delete the rain data file. My screen that came with the station reads fine.. 0.0 since no rain in last 48hours at least.
Have any ideas how or why that would do that and a solution?
At first I thought the gauge was issue but if that was or is the case then the main screen would also report it.

Hopefully in the not too distant future, the Atlas gear will be more versatile like the 5n1 gear where you can use it with software to share with several sites, and such. Until then, i may just put my Atlas away, and go back to the 5n1 gear. I'm also going to take down my fine offset stuff, since the display usb is broken... and the UV/light is broken.

Maybe there will be someone who can sell gear to just read the atlas transmissions, to be interpreted by a software like cumulus or Kevins reader type thing.

The new Software continues to work and work well. It is so nice to be able to use the Smarthub still. I use a 5-In-1  and two towers, and a composite of the collected data to feed to WU and PWSWeather. I also use the CVS file output to run live data to my personal web server and weather site. I have many hours setting up this configuration, and I am so happy I don't have to start over at this time. Thanks again, Kevin!

Can you check that link ColoradoWeather and Kevin... the software appears to need something to reset the rain data back to 0.
The hubs aren't resetting to 0 for some reason now.
I delete the rain data file, edit it and still no change it just keeps coming back to that so it has to be the hub.
Can something be done to adjust that also please?
Thanks!
