After a much dreaded chat with an online agent today (no more dial-in/phone support)...a customer rep from Acurite/Primex confirmed that the smarthub is now actively a brick. The firmware updates were supposedly not possible any longer...so it doesn't work no more. Customers were 'emailed' an alert...well I don't think I ever received one.
(just bought an ebay shoe-in thinking that might do it...but couldn't). Everything worked on both hubs...data out past router, IP address via browser...bla bla...just no connection to Acurite.
The replacement hub is the ACCESS, all existing sensors apparently still work with that.
This thing will cost you $130 bucks...but there's a 10% discount if you sign up for their newsletter.

Good luck folks...just want to save you from frustrating efforts!!  ](*,)

Thanks for the info. I hope some of the experiences acurite users chime in.

Really, really old news.  Hasn't this horse been beaten to death yet?

If you want to keep using  the SmartHUB, there are several options to do so that have been discussed many times over.

If the OP spent two minutes reading this forum before posting, they would have seen several identical threads, warnings for over a year that the SmartHUB EOL was coming, and a workaround or ten to continue using the SmartHUB with third-party apps.

Of course, none of the hacks/kludges being employed by many AcuRite customers still using the SmartHUB would be necessary if the company would just provide a local API on the new Access so people could access the data from their own stations.  Probably only a few dozen lines of code to add live UDP JSON broadcasts into the Access firmware, and I'd have a WeeWX driver to grab those packets developed and shared on GitHub by dinner time.....
WU Gold Stars for everyone!

Sorry you missed out on the email alert. Back then you could get an Access for $40 if you owned the Smart Hub.

If you're technically minded there are a few people still using the Smart Hub. https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=36299.0

If you'd checked here first you could have saved yourself some frustration dealing with Acurite. This issue was first reported back in February of 2018. https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=33862.0

@Jim_S, Thanks for the post. To nince and vreihen we dont need to scare a new comers :) . I know repeated posts can be frustrating but does not hurt to point new comers to the right direction. I would if I knew about acurite... :D
