Title: The Elusive RM Young 05701
Post by: MaximumMatt on January 12, 2021, 07:13:38 PM
I am a fan of the work RM Young does for the meteorology world and was doing some research on some of the lesser-known sensors that they manufacture and I came across an RM Young 05701 wind monitor.

I found out about this little fellow on a website that hasn't been updated since 2007 and no information about it was given other than an email area. I sent an email to that address and haven't been given a response (not surprised given the website was basically frozen in time) (website is linked at the bottom of this message)

So that's why I came here to ask if anyone has information about the 05701 and its uses.

The only photo I could find came from that website and is my profile picture.

Uhhh... it measures wind speed and direction?  ;) It is a prior version to the 5103V.  What do you need to know?

Well, I would like to know specs and what specific use it heald. RM Young makes wind monitors for different conditions like marine and hazardous environments so I was curious what use it had. and possibly some more photos too.

Matt;
Looks like someone got parts from an Alpine model and a regular one and put it together.

I have an interest in these gizmos, too, but never heard of this model number.

I did run across the little one in a Marine configuration that was bright  yellow.  Would have like to have gotten that but eBay got way over priced.

They were for research as in https://naldc.nal.usda.gov/download/1458/PDF

The 05701 had a low start-up speed threshold and was a research instrument.  Not intrinsically safe (the IS suffix on annys would show that).  Some of the research article shave more pics.
