WU not correcting for relative pressure.
« on: February 17, 2019, 12:35:55 PM »
Just updated the firmware on my Ambient IP station and now WU refuses to show the corrected relative pressure reading. When I refresh the page it shows the correct data for a second and then resorts back to the absolute pressure reading. My Ambient Weather dashboard and pwsweather pages show the correct relative pressure reading. What gives?

I've just tested the newly released firmware that you are running 4.5.2. I don't see a problem with Relative Pressure being reported to Weather Underground nor to AmbientWeather.net. I would recommend you check your Calibration settings tab page. When you install a new firmware a lot of times previously configured settings get lost. I make it a point to take screen shots before I do a firmware update. Then I flash the newest firmware. Then I always press the Reset button on the back of the ObserverIP. Then I wait 30 seconds. Then I pull the power cable to power cycle for at least 10 seconds. Then when it powers back up I first configure all the calibration settings before I enable reporting to WU so as to not upload bad data. I wish that AmbientWeather.net was not enabled by default. I turn that off right away until I set my calibration settings and Rain history. Don't forget to set the correct Time Zone settings too.

The calibration correction for relative pressure is set. It shows properly on my Ambient dashboard and on PWSweather. But on my WU page it shows the correct number for a second when I refresh the page and then resorts back to the absolute pressure figure. I tried rebooting my PWS and rebooting the router twice with no effect.

Here is my ambient weather:

Here is my WU page:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KCAFALLB91

Relative pressure is different.

Can you post a screen shot of your Calibration page? and also Station Settings page.

Configuration looks good.

What is the pressure reported on the LCD display of the WS-1000-BTH sensor? That is the indoor barometer, temperature, humidity device.

29.3 is correct for your Absolute pressure so the WS-1000-BTH seems to be working properly. It probably says 29.3X where X is the small little number that sometimes is missed. Close enough with you giving me 29.3 though.

If you add your Relative offset you get the correct relative pressure. But you are correct that on Weather Underground the incorrect pressure is showing. I think this is evidence that Weather Underground is manipulating your data. Perhaps they were doing some kind of correction to your pressure. Perhaps before this upgrade you were not properly calibrated. It has been often speculated that WU would mess with people's reported pressure. I'm not certain either way. When I refresh your page I do see the higher Relative pressure shown for a brief moment and then it goes down and shows your absolute pressure.

Within the last 24 hours your pressure dropped significantly. Probably due to your firmware change and then re-calibration. Maybe give it some time to see if it sorts its self out. Maybe someone else has a better idea of what is going on.

Thanks for your help. Hopefully it sorts itself out.

I guess I should stop updating the firmware. It seems like every time I do I encounter problems.  :???:

Check the Live Data page on your ObserverIP. Does it show the correct Relative pressure there?

How about your AmbientWeather.net dashboard. Is the correct Relative pressure shown there?

Yes, they both show the correct relative pressure.

Looks good...Well that proves that it is a problem on WU side and not your station. It should sort itself out. If not post in the WU big thread that your barometric pressure is being messed with despite your station being properly calibrated. We know it isn't a firmware issue because I tested 4.5.2 and I'm not seeing this problem. So like I said it may be because of your prior calibration setting before you upgraded, maybe they weren't just right before.

Don't forget to add your Rain totals into the ObserverIP. If you didn't copy them from before the firmware update then use the numbers on your WU.

Monthly: 9.05
Yearly: 13.86

Bad news...

I currently have one ObserverIP with 4.5.1 and another with 4.5.2. I didn't see this at first but now I'm seeing the one running 4.5.2 reporting Absolute pressure instead of Relative but just to WU, as it seems fine at AmbientWeather.net. So perhaps this is a firmware bug in 4.5.2. I've reported it to Ambient Weather. For now I recommend running 4.5.1.

4.5.2 is supposed to fix some UV scaling errors and rain reset problem with daily rain. These might just be internal issues or intermittent as I've not seen it be a problem. So for now I'm sticking to 4.5.1 for my Meteobridge connected ObserverIP.

In my testing with my WU station ID with 4.5.2 firmware I see the pressure change just as the page loads. It changes from proper Relative pressure down to Absolute pressure.

KFLWINTE860 - 4.5.2 - problems with Relative pressure
KFLWINTE862 - 4.5.1 - No problems

Both ObserverIP's are getting the same weather data from the same indoor pressure sensor and they are calibrated the same. So the problem is in the ObserverIP firmware.

Can you please tell me where to download firmware version 4.5.1? I only see 4.5.2 available from Ambient.

Thank you.

I found firmware 4.5.1 online, installed it, and am now back in business.

Thank you.
