new firmware version for GW1100 & GW2000: V2.1.5
« on: June 23, 2022, 07:23:13 AM »
Hi!

There's a new firmware version V2.1.5 available for the GW1100 and the GW2000.
Use the current WSView Plus app or the web interface of the GW1100/GW2000 ("Device Setting") to update.

Changelog for V2.1.5:
1. Fix some spelling mistakes.
2. Add WN34 temperature calibration function.
3. Add outdoor temperature correction correlating to solar radiation and wind speed.

Just installed it OK. Now is point 3 temperature correction or solar correction? Not clear the app says Radiation compensation but that says temperature.

Hi Stuart,

have a look here:
Quote
The recent version implemented outdoor sensor array air temperature compensation option. The default setting is set to OFF. If end-user selects this option to on, it will compensate air temperature against current radiation and wind speed. The compensation is achieved this way:

Outdoor_Temp = Outdoor_Temp - CorrectT

CorrectT =  solar_rad/ (10*cp*k* sqrt(u/0.0009)

solar_rad: unit in W/m^2.

cp: 29.3, k: 0.0984,

u: gust (bigger value among 0.5m/s or gust )

This option will be effective after v1.7.5.

This is just a very beginning trial in making the air temperature more accurate. But this is just a first trial, and it is not a guarantee for better or more accurate results. It will be subject to change when a better algorithm used in the future.

I expect the radiation compensation to work identically on all devices that support it. However, I do not have a confirmation from Ecowitt.
But I can safely say that this function gives impressive (positive!) results with the HP2551C if you only have a WH65/WS69 without an external outdoor temperature sensor.
I wrote a post about this yesterday in the German forum. If necessary, I can also post it here.

Regards, Oliver

Yes I understand that formula but why do they insist on saying Radiation Compensation on the app for this option. To me that refers to solar radiation but the actual formula says it is temperature compensation. I guess I'm complaining about the terminology as there is only one formula as I understand it and that is the one you quote above. In my view to be absolutely clear it should say Temperature Compensation on the app, or Solar Radiation if they mean that (which I don't think they do!).

Hi!

I understand what you mean.
I would also call it temperature compensation - after all, the temperature is being adjusted. But to limit the disturbing influence of the solar radiation.
On the other hand, it's just a name and it may also simply be a translation error.

Why don't you make a corresponding suggestion at Ecowitt?
It should only be named identically on ALL devices and in ALL apps and, if applicable, configuration pages.

use it with extreme caution, otherwise you'll have incorrect temperature value.
In general: if you've a wh 31/32, wh 31/32-ep in or without a solar shield you must don't use it
If you've a ws69/80/90 before activing this you must calibrate the lux sensor with a reference pyranometer (the davis one is ok) otherwise the algoritm can't do work well.
If you've a ws80/90 you also need to upgrade the sensor firmware (1.2.2 for ws80 and 1.1.9 for wittboy) to get correct wind speed value from anemometer (also this is used in the formula, so they need a correct value to works ok)

as per Ecowitt the compensation only becomes effective for the arrays WS69, WS80 and WS90. The WH32 readings will not be affected.

Are these the new calibrations in the GW2000 web interface (http://X.X.X.X/calibration.html:

Code: [Select]
Irradiance Gain
UV Gain
Wind Gain

I think I'll leave them alone for now.

No. They already existed in v2.1.4 (presumably also before). However, there was no Irradiance Gain but a SolarRad Gain.
I would reduce the UV gain - I have set it to 0.7.

I've given up with this. Far too much phantom rainfall in high dew situations. Also, I updated to the latest firmware last night, but the device never came back online. It came back after 7 hours, but it has since gone offline again.

Nothing but a hassle!

I had to reset the GW2000 to get it back online. However, it's gone offline yet again. This all started after the firmware update, so I would steer clear of updating yours.

what interface are you using ?
if you use the ethernet interface, did you provide a static IP address ? Depending on your type of reset an earlier set static IP may have got lost.
Did you just do a reboot, power-cycle or a factory reset ?

One of my GW2000 runs on 2.1.5 for two weeks (early adopter) and shows no issues. The 2nd one since one day now - no issues either.
Both are queried by Meteobridge, weewx and CumulusMX and post to the Ecowitt cloud and FOSHKplugin. I have set a static IP though and the query goes via the LAN interface.

It's not the local side (well there is that too) but the whole device goes dead. The lights are not on when I notice it go offline.

If I press the button on it, the red light starts flashing, but the blue light never comes on.

It all began after the firmware update last night. It never came back online after it rebooted.

Hi!

Some notes after the update from v2.1.4 to v2.1.5 on my GW1100:
There's the key totalainin also back (also with the missing "r" spelling error).
All temperature values (tempf, tempinf, tempXf, tf_co2, tf_chX) do have now 2 decimal places. With v2.1.4...v2.0.2 there was only one.
In the web interface under calibration the field SolarRad Gain was renamed to Irradiance Gain.

Update: reported to Ecowitt

not sure what you mean by "the whole device" - the GW2000 or the WS90 as opposite to the "local side" ... or did you just mean the LAN by local side... ?

If the GW2000 went dead and a factory reset doesn't help (power-cycle, then press the central button which has "ecowitt" printed on it and hold it for at least 10 seconds), then it might have got bricked by the firmware upgrade (shit happens). If so, I would contact the seller (WeatherSpares ?? or Ecowitt ??) and ask for a replacement by reporting the symptoms.

The GW2000 - it goes dead - as in no lights are on. If I do a quick press of the button, the red light flashes, but it never comes back online, both locally and the internet, unless I power cycle it. But it'll randomly go off again, and I have to repeat the process.

I did a reset earlier, but that didn't fix anything.

It's been good for two hours, but it has gone off again.

Out of interest, does the GW2000 not retain any daily highs if it gets rebooted?

Power supply is fine. It's a double USB charger, and my tablet is plugged in to the other socket. No issues with that. As I keep mentioning, this began the moment the firmware upgrade took place and the device did it's automatic reboot. It never came back online by itself.

as I said before - I'd do a real factory reset as described earlier (note down your rain totals and calibration and sensor IDs beforehand - they'll get lost over a factory reset), and take it from there.

I reset it, got it set back up and I also plugged in to a a charger upstairs right next to my workstation. The blue light goes off first, the red light flashes randomly and then that goes off. No lights on at all!

That firmware update has definitely crocked it. However, if it was bricked, it would run at all..

Answer received from Ecowitt:

Quote
The total rain on gw1000 was there before, and we deleted this feature on custom server before. However there is one customer used this data on his custom server, and that is why we added it back.

Sorry for the spelling mistake, I will pass this to our software team and ask them to be more careful.

I assume that totalrainin will be transferred correctly (with "r") again in the next firmware version (for GW1000 as well as for GW1100 and GW2000) and that this field for GWxx00 is still only a 1:1 copy of yearlyrainin.

for a GW1000/WH2650 that's the only possibility.
The GW1100 and GW2000 - and in principle also the HP2551 - could technically start building up this raintotalin internally as does the WS2350/WS2320E console as there is internal NVM available.
