Title: While I feel sorry for Canada's loss of trees, the effects here are beautiful
Post by: DaleReid on September 07, 2018, 09:48:54 AM
We get only a handful of good sunsets each year here in the Western Wisconsin region.  In the fall my mother used to say that the colors were due to Mrs. Santa Claus's oven baking all the Christmas cookies.

For the last few weeks we've had some spectacular and due to the ecliptic angle with the horizon, longer lasting sunsets, all due to the fires in Canada.  When a storm passes and the cold front sweeps down from central Canada with the smoke from their fires, the sunsets have become truly breathtaking.

I feel bad for the lost trees, but honor them by enjoying the product their demise.

1.3 million hectares and counting in BC alone.  But don't be sad - need to clean up after Pine beetle and the poor forest management practices.

Awesome. Keep them coming.
I agree about fall/winter sunsets. They are something to behold.

It's hard to resist any sunset, but while not a fall/winter one, this one is a particular favorite.  My son and I drove from Wisconsin down to DeWitt, Nebraska which was a great adventure in itself (seeing alerts on overhead Interstate signs to not pull over during eclipse, or headlights on during eclipse, not a stock phrase) and while we got a nice cloud cover 1/2 hour before the eclipse, we still had a grand time.

On our way back we were heading towards Des Moinse, IA and followed a storm moving east.  He was driving and while the traffic slowed for an accident, I was able to get a few pictures of the sun on the clouds, along with numerous rainbows for 100 miles.

This picture is one from that set:
