Need for a Rain Gauge Cover if it snows?
« on: November 15, 2023, 06:17:42 PM »
My question is does one need a Rain Gauge Cover in case it snows?  Is there any gauge for measuring snow and snow fall?  Sorry for the questions but I'm new to this "hobby".

Most automatic (tipping bucket) rain gauges tolerate snow and freezing weather. The only issue is that you will have a sunny day with temperatures above freezing and your rain gauge will be indicating rain as the collected snow melts.

I have a heater in my Davis gauge and cover my Novalynx TBR.

Cutty gave you good advice on how to measure snow with a manual gauge.

Thank you as well.  Do you or anyone for that matter, know of cover that will fit over Iris 5 in 1 or Atlas 7 in 1?  I have both sensor packages.  Acurite does not make a cover for either of them.  Which is a shame.

it's not needed won't hurt anything, like mentioned you may see some rain total when the snow melts is all.
