Meteobridge not uploading **solved**
« on: November 16, 2016, 08:58:02 AM »
My Meteobridge is connected to a VP2 and has worked perfectly since July up until yesterday. Now it will only display current data for 5 minutes after being rebooted from the System page. The messgae on the System page is below.
Any ideas ?

I assume it is a plain Meteobridge, not a  Meteobridge-Pro.

First checks:
Do you have the USB hub between the Davis logger cable and the Meteobridge?
An USB hub  is mandatory to get reliable readings.

If you have such a USB hub check the cables. Maybe they got disconnected.
If it is a powered USB hub, check that the power supply is still OK.  = = => that was the reason when I had similar problems.

There was a bug in 3.1, select the latest version and reboot.

This is from the meteobridge forum:
Quote
Version 3.1

released November 16, 2016

hotfix that prevents from filling up ram disk with temporary test messages. This makes Meteobridge stall/reboot after a while.

It is always a good idea to check http://www.meteobridge.com/wiki/index.php/Forum

Thanks for the replies

-It is a plain Meteobridge MR3020
-there is a USB hub between the Meteobridge and VP2
-the cables are ok...this problem began suddenly with the unit untouched for over 3 weeks
-the USB hub is not powered
-I did check the Meteobridge forum and the unit does have the Nov 16 update. It didn't solve the problem

Your remark about the power supply causing problem with the USB hub remined me of a simiar problem with a VOIP phone unit where a bad power supply caused poor voice quality but the phone still worked. I will change the power supply and see if that makes a difference.

I assume it is a plain Meteobridge, not a  Meteobridge-Pro.

Upon a closer look, I see the following:
Quote
logger (16.11.2016 08:30:18): station 0 (Vantage), can't open device /dev/ttyMH: No such file or directory
logger (16.11.2016 08:30:48): station 0 (Vantage), can't open device /dev/ttyMH: No such file or directory

You might try connecting the console to your PC and running Weatherlink. If the console isn't communicating with the PC either, then try disconnecting console power and remove the batteries. After 10 seconds or so, reinstall the batteries and connect the power. It should beep and acquire the transmitters. Then try Weatherlink again. If you have communication with the PC/Weatherlink, then try reconnecting to meteobridge.

Messages indicate that USB communication is not working OK on low level.
Can be a faulty USB hub, can be a defective USB port in the MR3020, can be a problem with the Davis data logger.

Doesn't look like a SW problem to me.

Thanks for the replies. I will try replacing the power supply and USB hub. Strange part is it will work for about 5 minutes after a reboot.

Update:
Setting the frequency of the updates to much longer was a work around and solved the problem. ie 15 seconds to 15 minutes.
Yesterday the USB hub was replaced and the frequency of updates was returned to the shorter period and all is working ok.
Thanks for the help.
