Somebody who's here during off-hours needs to be able to kill them as they happen.

first'd?

Makes me first'd just thinking about it.  #-o

I've always felt DanS would make a good moderator and I'm sure many others feel the same way.

I'm on here during the "off-hours". Sometimes anyway…but I already manage a (slowly growing) forum of my own. I could try to handle more than one, but one is enough! Just thought I'd put that out there.  ;)

And yes, DanS would make an excellent moderator.

Yep, a fast, drive-by spammer from China.

Thanks for the heads-up.. they've been reported, banned, and posts removed .. all tidy now :)

Neither do I .. thanks for your heads-up .. we try to make short lives for spam messages (and spammers if we could..)

Thanks to our Stop Forum Spam mod, over 1800 spammers have been blocked from registration, and our mod HTTPbl has blocked over 39922 attempts.

Particularly active right now (last few weeks) are accesses from the Ukraine and China.  Very persistent.. I've had to remove about 30 registrations a day for a couple of weeks now.  But, I'm not tired.. it's a bit of whack-a-mole at times, but rewarding :)

Best regards,
Ken

I do use a /24 (class C) block on pernicious offenders.  Sometimes even a /16 (class B) range for offending countries.

Generally, I stopped applying individual IP blocks in favor or the /24 or /16 (as appropriate).

The Ukranians from the 109.200.229-243.* addresses have gotten the /24 blocks and are now banned from access.. cut down the registrations quite a bit.

Speaking of IP's.. i wonder if the post in Weather Web Resources at 2;04pm yesterday might have come from the same ip as the post the previous day...     I know its not technically spam.... but

Speaking of canned meat on this forum ()

I keep getting spam messages from a user named "Rhino" on here asking about one of my dead weather station units…he's claiming to work with one of the weather station companies and I don't believe a word of it (nor should I anyway).

May be worth sending SaratogaWX (Ken) a PM regarding this. I see that this member is a newbie (1 day member) and maybe Ken can check it out.
