Nice looking shopping list!

I was going to go with that 500R Carbide series case but went with Corsair's 600t in case I need another suitcase in the future.

Good call going with the Z77, IMHO. Lots of good things said about the "COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO" cooler.

Have [fun] with the build and post your WEI when your done!

Took me a while to pick out the case. I choose the 500r because of excellent cable management and I love how it looks. Going to build on Monday when I'm off of work. I will post pics of the finished product.

What about Intel?

If you have issues, check here: http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm they test both stock and aftermarket coolers, so you can compare them and get an idea if there would be a difference.

I think Corsair has excellent cable management overall. The days of nibbling holes are gone!

On my recent (and first Win7) build, gwwilk made mention of paying mind to the Users folder location which, to me, made perfect sense. I came across a nice pdf on www.sevenforums.com forums that detailed a nice and, seemingly great, method of relocating the Users and ProgramData folders where all the constant writes and general storage goes.

It's for use with a new install with an SSD as a boot drive and a spinner for data, etc: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/124198-user-profiles-create-move-during-windows-7-installation.html

The one thing with it is I found it best to create a partition for use with that method as where ever those files go will be seen as a system drive. I've done it 3 or 4 times already in trying different drive and RAID arrangements (first 2x1Tb drives and finally 4x1Tb drives) and still no problems with those 2 folders in a separate partition on a spinner.

Also, don't know if it's a helpful tip or not but avoid any non-Intel SATAIII controller on the mobo for the SSD. On my Gigabyte board, the Marvel controller was substantially slower. ACHI for install.

Great info re the techniques for setting up an SSD as a boot drive with spinners for bulk storage!  I simply moved my User folders manually after installation, but the techniques detailed in this reference are much more elegant and thorough.  The relevant pdf now sits in my downloads folder awaiting my next build.  (BTW, I changed the dead first link in your post to a live one since the forum software saw it as a url even though you hadn't intended it as such.)

Thanks for pointing out my linking error, Jerry - all fixed. That's a pretty good looking forum for 7 users.

I had looked at a handful of different methods but the pdf one seemed to make the best sense to me with it being fed in as an XML file during the install. But thanks to you for pointing out the move of that folder in the first place.

The fact that it inherently makes the drive those folders are installed to a system drive prompted me to get 2 more Samsung F3 1Tb drives. What I ended up with was 2 1Tb drives in (Intel) RAID 0 with a 300G partition (set in the RAID config) for that system use with the SSD, 1.5Tb for the scratch drive with the other 2 1Tb drives in a RAID 1. Just for kicks, I ordered the last 2 drives with a dual-layer Blu-Ray burner.

IIRC, there was a link or two in the pdf to 'DISKPART' command prompt usage with raw drives and everything detailed in the file went very smooth and seamless. With the SSD on SATAIII and the spinners on SATAII, all in RAID mode, I had no problem doing it with all the hardware installed.

I did the Virtual Machine and XP Mode installs last nite - pretty cool stuff, if I ever need it.

Sorry, hayskswx for the thread hijack but hope some of it can be useful to you. Can't wait to hear your update after Monday's build!

That's a good looking case in white. I'm not too big a fan of the white ones but that definitely looks clean and sharp. Nice choice and nice job!

Now, with all the porn out of the way, we need some WEI numbers at least! Did you speed check your SSD?

I don't know how you feel but I look at mine and it looks naked without a video card in it! :-P

It does look naked without a graphics card. That will come in time. Question for you. Since I don't play games and to be honest the graphics are excellent. Will a video card be worth the expense since I'm not a gamer?

For me, I think it will be as my primary target will be video editing/burning. I'm not a gamer either but I think with this one I might get back in again a little but, like you, it can wait a bit (I hope ).

Those puppies are expensive nowadays! I've been window shopping the last few days and my jaw keeps dropping. Need to do a lot of user review reading before I shell that kind of money out. The HD4000 graphics on my CPU is pretty good for everything so far but I think it would benefit me to step up to a beefy GPU for the "heavy" stuff.

Maybe. If everything you want to run works fine, don't bother. If something needs something better, then you may have to get one. My biggest issue is that nearly every graphics card these days depends on a fan, those fail eventually. So I'll only consider passively cooled graphics cards.

I agree with both of you and for what I'm doing now its not needed so I will wait. I have also heard about the fans going out over time.  Could you two post pics of your PC's as I would be interested seeing it.
